I think I just put the pieces together where the "shadow realm" came from in the dub of yugioh.

Look at the release date of the series. yugioh season 1 dub was 2001. Jackie Chan adventures was 2000. Even back in season 1, Jackie Chan had characters called Shadow Khan (Shadow Ninjas). They come from the shadow realm.

So maybe dub yugoh took liberties from this show.
