Democrats lost in part because of their selection mechanism.
They effectively chose Hilary Clinton because 'it was her turn', though few actually wanted her.
They chose Joe Biden because 'it was his turn', though few actually wanted him.
They chose Kamala Harris because Joe Biden chose her, though few had her as their first choice.
Until Democrats allow freer choice of a candidate who is actually well received, they'll have trouble convincing anyone.
Also, Trump can join that elite group of Putin, Orban, Erdogan, Kim Jong Un - the people he most admires.
Too bad he has to bring the USA along with him.
The only silver lining is that we can get rid of Harris, who never impressed me, and hope for an actual progressive next time. Hope springs eternal.
When Bush Jr (Cheney) won for the first time, I was overseas and depressed. When he won for the second time, I was embarrassed for my country. This is far worse. By contrast, Cheney was an evil but principled savant. Trump seems to revel in ignorant, unfocused idiocy.

AEscifi published my story "Memory and Faded Ink" in 2019, but it's only just now that I remember where the title came from - a novelette I started back then and have only now got around to finishing. I was doing a final re-read when the line struck me. Here's hoping the novelette (a dark steampunkish adventure story with an elderly protagonist) does as well!

I thought Harris' best moments were when talking about race and optimism. She seemed more sincere then than at other moments.
Trump was as incoherent and dishonest as expected. Harris started nervous, but improved.
#ABC's #moderation was better than CNN's, but still terrible - they let Trump run on whenever he wanted, but cut off Harris the one time she tried. I blame it on old-fashioned sexism rather than conspiracies.
So they'll cut Harris off but not Trump.
