I certainly hope the EU can put the same sanctions on the US for attacking Venezuela as they did on Russia for attacking Ukraine. This is indefensible.
i mainly talk about my most current hobbies and interests (tho, I have a lot of them, and they cycle).

finally had a chance to try out 7 wonders duel. me and wife did four rounds 😁
we both enjoyed it and hopefully it stays feeling good after some 10 to 20 games. i have heard the expansions makes it even better, but i like vanilla on principle.
tbh, its hard to find games that me and my wife can enjoy together. we're both competitive and would probably be better served cooperatively; but most coop games, frankly, kinda suck.
it came!
New year partying finally over. We basically made it full on gaming event for 2 days straight. We played:
- Exploding Kittens 12x
- Lumae 7x
- Bang! The Dice Game 5x
- Flamme Rouge 4x
- Flip 7 3x
- Rat-a-Tat Cat 2x
- Bohnanza! 1x
- 6 Nimmt! 1x
- Hanabi 1x
- King of Tokyo 1x
- Ticket to Ride: Europe 1x
- 7 Wonders 1x
Everyone had an absolute blast!
We did two games at 2 players, six games at 3 players, and two games at 4 players tonight. All in all that leaves me at 16 playtesting sessions so far.
It felt solid even at higher player count. Needs more testing of course, but I am pretty confident. Endgame might need some tweaking though since one player (same player) ended up dominating every time, and, to quote my fellow player who didn't win, "fucking aphids, man".
I brought my game to work yesterday and managed to squeeze in two separate plays with two separate coworkers.
The consensus from both, individually was (paraphrasing) "At first glance this seemed like a kids game or entry family game to me because the rules are very simple, but once I figured out what's what come second round I realized just how many decisions I had to consider before making my first move."
Will try with more players on new year!
i had a random idea coming out of nowhere last night and finished a new design. we've only tried it on two players but it does feel pretty good already. hopefully it will scale to three or four players! maybe even five!
basically, it's a rules light shedding game using dice and with interactive mechanics. from our initial testing, it requires just enough thought to make it interesting but not overbearing, perfect for casual play!
two nights of labour but the family #yuletide gifts are finally ready!
everyone we know drinks #tea and #coffee so we wanted to give something different, south american #yerbamate. 100% none of them tried it, so we bought a matecup and bombilla straw, bundled with 6 different infused taste profiles that we've split and bagged plus one bag of fancy #chocolates.
hopefully it's not so bad. we did try one and it was pretty mild, a bit of a reminiscent of #matcha.
I understand why #Angelfish are among the most popular species ☺️ I could totally see myself going all in if I had the space for it lol.
went #icefishing earlier today. Complete bust. The guys far away tho caught a lot and that's our usual spot. I think it would be only fair if they gave us half their catch!
I've put several species in the same #aquarium as they haven't been breeding.
so of course, after almost a year now; the albino #ancistrus finally gave us a batch of fry!
but then... the #kribs, which decidedly did not want to breed for a long time now, also decided to hatch the same day... in the same tank.
...and naturally, the #endlers which are there temporarily, also released fry today (nothing for 2 months).
because why not all do it at the same time! not at all a recipe for disaster!🙃
just caught up on #strangerthings and I have to wholly disagree with there being a lack of substance. obviously there will be a lot of gun action when you have the military involved which was already established as a plot focus in the previous season and should have been expected. but the primary goal here for this first part of the season was essentially leading up to FINALLY resolving the gaping hole of a subplot that was season2. how are we not all happy the show finally went full circle?!
Reactive games is where I shine and I'm pretty awful at logic games. So even tho I love watching top-tier #chess plays, I’m not actually that into it. Losing every time because the better player always wins isn’t fun. It's a structural flaw in the game itself.
That’s why #backgammon has pulled me back in. The dice force you to play reactively and think on your feet, the outcome is not predetermined. It’s strategic, tactical, dynamic, and human. In terms of gameplay, it’s simply the better game.
My eldest (5) painting his first #warhammer miniature! He was so excited to get started he basically tore the package apart. Not because of me either; I haven't played in 10 years so i take none of the blame for this one lol. He is just into anything artsy and fantasy related and his first and only visit to games workshop a few months back made him want to try paint real bad (and he was amazed by all the painted figures on display). I absolutely love how geeky he is. 300% 'like dad like son' 😁
I found this lone little guy at the pet store! They had no idea where he came from or that he was even there. looks like blond japan blue double sword, but the caudal fin is too green for that lineage. Am now breeding him with one of my blond females who carry lower sword and snakeskin gene. Let's see what comes of it! 😅
Giving it some thought, even if #Warhammer is the better choice as a lifestyle game in terms of investment and #wargaming in general. I was never a fan of playing at the local club. Not my scene. I also don't like the lore behind #AoS nor #40k. I have always been a core fan of #wfb though, also the lore and rpg rules and campaigns for #WFRP 2e/4e (super excited for 5e). But mechanically #TOW kinda sucks. Mechanically, #Necromunda is my jam, but the setting sucks, and no players...
...what, do.
The recent #AlteredTCG kickstarter made me less optimistic about its future :/
Despite 30 years of #MTG - this made me realize the entire TCG concept is dumb. We buy pricy boxes and use ~10% of it. Every month. Insanity? Check.
Maybe non-deckbuilding ECGs (expandable card games) with POD (print-on-demand) are the future (albeit it will kill the stores since they live off of MTG/Pokemon - thus, no stores, no games, no hobby. rational for players yet terrible for players?).
...maybe #Warhammer?
wtf 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i have rewatched it 4 times now. still don't know wtf he was thinking but her follow up reaction cracks me up so bad.
finally! it just took a year! +perfect timing! i'm in the middle of retooling my hobby. getting rid of everything except:
- #angelfish pair (230l tank)
- #kribs pair (54l tank)
- #bettas (6x 43l breeder tanks)
- #guppies (3x 110l tanks)
- #CPD (54l tank)
as well as #ancistrus, #neocaridina and #aquariumplants, to maximize gains per tank. these are all the best to breed for trade- always in demand. good prices. only missing #medaka and #espei. no space tho.
