Never on the bird site, but when I heard about Mastodon I thought it would be for old fossils like me, so I joined. Happy to be here as it is a very #Canadian space, warm and friendly. After doing some thinking turns out I’m a devout #atheist. This got me thinking about how churches are subsidized in #Canada, so now I’m going to do something about it. Getting back into print making this fall, the studio is almost finished, look for an anti-dogma series when the studio is up and running.

For the record: I don't generally post pornographic material, gore, or subjects that I believe might reasonably cause harm or undue distress. And if I do, I would put them behind a CW.
But I do post about a variety of topics that may not be of universal interest, such as US law and politics, geeky technology stuff, ponderous art, and so on. Undesired exposure to my posts on those subjects is one of the risks of of following me. Feel free to block or mute me if that scares you.

There is a certain type of account on Mastodon that I’ve noticed routinely makes posts with select words in ALLCAPS, for example “you’ll never BELIEVE what the ultrarich EAT for BREAKFAST on MONDAYS” (not a real example). I’m introducing a new policy to block such accounts on sight, bc life is too short for INFLAMMATORY bs.
American companies offering discounts and deals in an attempt to get Canadians to return are completely missing the point.
It was never about prices or exchange rate. They could offer free trips and they'd still only get a tiny percentage of their Canadian customers back.
Your president is threatening our country and economically attacking us.
Even if we could ignore that, we also see how your country treats its own citizens AND visitors, including Canadian ones.

I love Canada for a lot of reasons but petty, passive aggressive moves like this make me proud.
Hear me out — every classroom gets a box fan.
At the start of every year/semester the classrooms get fresh filters and supplies and the homeroom class or whatever get to decorate it. Make the CR box their classroom mascot. Get them emotionally invested in making sure their mascot is plugged in and running and eating up the toxins in the air.
All the CR boxes are entered into a virtual pageant/contest to choose best/creative/most something-or-other. Kids get fun rewards. Hooray. Yeah?

I’m actually in favour of increasing our military spending, mostly because I anticipate the US deciding at some to point to switch to military means to annex us if their economic measure aren’t successful.
What worries me is how much of this new spending is going to be directed right to the hostile country that’s threatening us.
We should be lessening our dependence on the US militarily just much as we should be should be lessening our dependence on them economically.
