I feel like the story expects us to view Galloway as the villain but I really don't. Is his compromise with the Daleks imperfect, yes. Is he going to be betrayed by the Daleks, always. Yet he is doing this to save tens of millions of people

At the risk of contradicting myself a little, I don't like how easily this Dalek is destroyed. It is interesting to have them without weapons, but the idea that if a primitive stabs them with an spear they just explode is going too far

The whole Daleks being defenceless sub plot is wrapped up fairly quickly. I would have liked to have seen a genuine alliance between the Humans and the Daleks. Masters of War is probably my favourite Dalek story because it does that concept perfectly

The first two people we see killed are felled by a single shot and yet here they don't seem to be able to hit anyone or anything.

I like the idea of the Daleks being without power. What threat is a Dalek whose gun stick won't fire? At this point in the show at least a Dalek who can't fire is no threat at all and that is an interesting concept I wish they had done more with

It is a fairly regular criticism that the comics wrap up quickly, but this one is enough to give whiplash

If every system in the TARDIS has completely ceased to function why does the translation feature still seem to work just fine...

This has all of the elements I loved in the 60's stories but for me they aren't really working here. I've surprisingly little to say about all of this

I would always have said that the console room was my least favourite, but I think this is worse. It feels claustrophobic. The console is almost touching the wall

Say what you like about the rest of this episode, it has a brilliant opening scene

I feel like I should be enjoying this more than I am. It all just feels a little disjointed

So I have decided to go ahead with a competition to find the ultimate Doctor Who story. I'm going to run it across X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads and see what different responses I get.

BUT I need your help for a future project too! In the comments, please rate each story out of 10 (even if the poll has closed) or message me you full rankings if feeling ambitious. These scores will be used to create a community-voted league table.

I personally like the ending of this story (episode 6 has been really good overall) but it does have a He-Man style lets sit down and talk about the moral of the story feel, just in case anyone wasn't paying attention

If this story were to be made today I'm almost certain it would end with Yates making a heroic sacrifice to save the day and atone for his betrayal. Here he just disappears from the story and we are told he is being allowed to resign in disgrace. Very understated

There is an interesting comparison to be made here with We have very similar stories and yet the people deceived here feel like they have far more agency than those in Salamanders bunker

"I can only hope that in the future we shall be friends" Charles Grover is a fascinating character, willing to see countless Billions of people wiped out but unwilling to kill Sarah who he knows could ruin everything

As much as I like this story, I can't see that the Time Lords would have allowed this to stand even if the Doctor had failed to stop them. Wiping out all of your ancestors sounds like the worst kind of paradox you could cause
