Österreich wollte Härte bei abgewiesenen Asylwerbern zeigen. Vier Somalier wurden in Begleitung von mehreren Polizisten und Beamten des Innenministeriums, einem Arzt und einem Menschenrechtsbeobachter mit einem Charterflieger abgeschoben werden.

In Nairobi stellte sich heraus, dass die nötigen Dokumente fehlten. Nach 30 Stunden in der Transitzone des Flughafens mussten sie wieder zurückfliegen.

Gute Nacht, Freunde.

Wrote almost 2k words for Jeko today. He had a very intense experience (which I don't want to spoil).

Tomorrow, I'll get them to safety, solve the problem they were sent to deal with and possibly wind down the story.

It sits at 4k words, so I'll easily stay under the limit. (She says. We'll see.)

Very happy how it's turning out, and I really hope it'll be a fun way to introduce the Winds & Pillars world.

Played a bit in a new hammer world, with a very strange continent build. I had to build a raft to reach the Eikthyr spot.

Also had a nice few hours with @Moni . Finishing the base, sorting everything into chests (Moni is the Queen of chests!), and turning our old base into a luxury barn for our 2* boar.

I made iron weapons and shields, and we might foray into the Mountain tomorrow. *rubs hands*

People who want more engagement can be talking about SUCH a wide variety of things, from "more clicks on my ad" to "deeper friendships".

So I guess improving it starts with clearly defining what you want from people (and asking yourself if that's a reasonable expectation).

We have people doing these hashtag games from Australia (and NZ?) and Europe and the Americas. This is never going to be a synchronous medium, and what tags people follow and how they curate their feeds will determine whether they see some posts at all.

The people complaining need to define what they think is missing, and whether it is compatible with the available medium.

I used to see this on twitter: people posting about yelling into a void, and imagining 'the algorithm' as a sentient creature with a vendetta against them. If you want to talk to people, just talk to people. If you want people to like your posts, post something interesting, and accept that other people might not find it as interesting as you do. If you want to go viral, you're nuts.

Remember that SoMe is not the world. I left the raging Nazi hellscapes (Twitter, FB, IG) at the beginning of the year - my mental health is better, my book sales have not dropped (admittedly, they have never been high) and I have more time and energy for things that matter.

I'd say by managing expectations, plus not only posting something &hoping people will react, but engaging with posts already here.

I find the hashtags here so useful. I leave a star for each toot I read (unless I absolutely disagree), I share those I feel need sharing, and I respond if there's something I want to say.

Don't think I can expect more from this medium.

🤔 We should be weary about equating all social media.

Here, a "favourite/like" indicates that a community member read your thought, and appreciated it.

On the angry dead bird site, a greed-driven algorithm masquerading as something social will have pushed that thought to farm the ghosts of mildly amused smirks for resale purposes, degrading our thoughts to products.

Genuine social engagement requires an active interest in people.

I don't need to tell anyone here, on the fedi, we *collectively create* engagement by engaging with each other as people who like similar cool stuff. By and large, engagement in the marketing sense is bullshit. We have interpersonal trust and word of mouth.

If you want people to buy your cool stuff, say how in your bio, post a few links, and just be a decent person.

Day 11, and the Friends leave the mountains and travel to Edinburgh during the Scottish Enlightenment to do a bit of skating.
