@GW0HRG Thanks to all at the Halkyn Group (especially Jake 2E0SEY for the tour) for welcoming us (NWARG) and the Wirral club (WPARC) to their amazing set-up on the site of the Britannia Inn at Halkyn.

Today we are having a radio field day in collaboration with the Wirral Peninsula Amateur Radio Club (MX0KHQ) at our club.
Come and join us at The Britannia Inn for lots of radio fun on lots of bands, or work us on the air if you hear us! We will be active on many HF, VHF and UHF bands.

Our 23cm Yagi is finally on the main mast with decent coax and a rotator. This has been on the to-do list for a long time. #23cm #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #hamr

Our Fram2Ham pioneers need to be prepared and proficient. Are you up for the challenge?

Gear up for a practice session Feb 13-17 via the ISS.

FRAM2 HAM: ISS Simulation. The ISS will hold a special 70cm SSTV event leading up to the FRAM2Ham mission. Event Overview: ISS Transmissions Feb. 13-17, Start/End times to be announced. Output: 437.550 MHz at 5 Watts, A 70 CM frequency will also be used during the FRAM2Ham event. 5 watts will simulate power levels and unknowns of a new radio system on Dragon. Mode: PD120, Intentionally longer than the FRAM2Ham Robot36 transmissions to allow for signal polarization switching skills and Doppler correction practice. Find more info at ARISS.org. Image includes logos for FRAM2, ARISS ISS Amateur Radio, and a puzzle piece graphic.

This photo was taken with great anticipation, just before finding out that a log periodic antenna, an SG-Lab 23cm transverter and a SOTA summit aren't a good combination.

Strong out of band signals (probably mobile phone networks) meant full scale QRM unless I pointed it away from any populated areas.

This was Shining Tor and my 1st 23cms activation. Disappointing, but 2m FM proved reliable as expected with over 25 QSOs before getting too cold. #AmateurRadio #hamr #HamRadio #SOTA #23cm

Views of a stone wall on a summit. You can see other hills in the background. In the foreground, a fibreglass pole is strapped to a gatepost. At the top of the pole, a small log periodic antenna is mounted in vertical polarisation. The antenna is encased inside white plastic to protect the thin metal interior (which isn't visible).

Our meeting night has changed to Tuesdays. Tomorrow will be our last meeting this year before we take a break for Christmas.
The 7th January will be the first meeting of 2025.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all, from the Halkyn Radio Group!

Over the last few weeks, we have made great progress on our VHF/UHF station. We have mounted our Clark SCAM mast to the shack and mounted a rotator, which we successfully tested yesterday.
Next jobs: Mount the X300 (2m/70cm) colinear, move the 23cm Yagi to a stand off bracket, repair and mount the 2m/70cm dual band Yagi and finally sort out the coax runs for each. #AmateurRadio #HamRadio #HamR

Last night, we brought our repeater back on the air under its new callsign, MB5HR. We are now running 25w ERP with the antenna back in an omnidirectional radiation pattern.

Please note that the frequency has changed. For more info, please see ukrepeater.net/my_repeater.php

Last night, in addition to the ADSB station and some (hopefully) final tweaks to the repeater antenna (see previous two toots), members also helped run some extra cabling and put other supporting infrastructure in place to prepare for the installation of the #QO100 Tx setup.
An exceptionally productive evening.

As you can imagine, a few of us are quite excited to get this up and running! Hopefully we can get there next week.

We now have an #ADSB Rx station at the club shack, thanks to members chipping in to help set this up.
We are feeding many services, including #FlightRadar24 #ADSBExchange #ADSBfi #ADSBlol #ADSBHub #FlightAware #PlaneWatch #RadarBox #OpenSky #1090MhzUK and more.
Group members can now enjoy premium features of some of these services.
We still have more to do to improve the setup, as currently when we Tx on other bands, the RTLSDR goes deaf. Perhaps a nice cavity filter! #1090mhz #AmateurRadio

A green cabin with a pole mounted on the side in the foreground.
On the pole: a 2.4ghz directional antenna (WiFi) and a very small colinear (ADSB).
In the background, an X300 colinear is visible.
There are some cables on the right hand side, hanging down by the side of the cabin, in the process of being run towards the cabin.

Work has continued on finding an optimal configuration for our repeater over the last couple of weeks.
Firstly, we changed the stacked dipoles to an omnidirectional configuration, then swapped it for an X510 colinear, before reverting to the stacked dipoles, all facing one direction.
The null is facing north (out to sea). The greatest amount of our members can now use the repeater.
Additionally we found that the X510 moved around too much in the wind, giving a very variable signal!

There was some downtime on our repeater (GW7VFJ) earlier whilst we switched to a dedicated antenna in a better position.
Initial reports suggest a much improved signal. #repeater #hamr #HamRadio #AmateurRadio #70cmBand

@VE2UWY It is now easier to apply to run a repeater, especially if it's low power as ours is.

Our 70cm FM repeater (GW7VFJ) is now on the air in an early testing phase.
The antenna is temporary and in theory the current performance will improve once we switch to the permanent antenna.
This repeater is possible due to the new UK license regulations and is limited to 5w TX power.
Reports are welcome! Details at: ukrepeater.net/my_repeater.php
