Challenged to live-toot games that I, apparently, should have played decades ago? I dabble in #retrogaming, #retrocomputing, #pinball, #3DPrinting, and other stuff as well.
If you're any kind of decent person, I'm happy to be here with you. Your biology and choices don't bother me. I'm on the side that welcomes foreigners, LGBTQ+ people, neurodiverse folks, and everyone else who wants to read my thoughts about computers and games and fun.
No Nazis. Ever. Under any circumstances.

@onfy Thanks, voted. Likely was overthinking it.
Micro Mages! So far a singular Micro Mage, because I've been the only one home this afternoon.
Controls are excellent: your character has an excellent feel of momentum and inertia. Wall-jumping, bouncing, all of it works perfectly. Nothing finicky, like wall-jumping in Strider (yes, it's been 35 years and I still remember being annoyed).
New enemies are introduced steadily, and are significantly different.
Looks and sounds great. I'm playing on a 12-year old TV, via a RetroTINK 2X Pro.
@onfy Do 2DS's count, and should I include any that belong to my kids?
Looking at the changelog of DSM 7.3 (https://www.synology.com/en-us/releaseNote/DSM?os=DSM&version=7.3), under “Fixed Issues”:
"Fixed a security vulnerability regarding AppleTalk (CVE-2023-51781)”
and googling that CVE brings us to this page: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-51781
which specifically mentions the AppleTalk DDP protocol stack:
"An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel before 6.6.8. atalk_ioctl in net/appletalk/ddp.c has a use-after-free because of an atalk_recvmsg race condition.”
If we look at Netatalk's documentation on the AppleTalk kernel module (https://netatalk.io/docs/AppleTalk-Kernel-Module):
"The atalkd daemon will attempt to dynamically load the kernel module if not detected, and errors out with the following message if all attempts fail: Address family not supported by protocol”
Well shit, that's the exact error message I'm getting.
If we look at the Linux kernel version used by DSM, it's still running 4.4, not 6.6. Running "uname -a” from my NAS prints the following:
Linux SmallNAS 4.4.302+ #86009 SMP Wed Nov 26 18:19:17 CST 2025 x86_64 GNU/Linux synology_geminilake_220+
So here's what I think happened - Synology "fixed” the CVE by disabling the AppleTalk kernel module entirely, rather than actually backporting the fix.
@Gammitin Bright and festive colors!
My recent posts have featured my imported Super Gameboy 2, which fixes the clock speed so Game Boy games run more accurately, but most importantly it adds the link cable port so I can now link my SNES/SGB2 with my Original Game Boy, Analogue Pocket, Game Boy Player, et al. And have TV multiplayer!
Calling #Apple IIe fans...
Do you have three of these key stems to sell me?
They are apparently the Mitsumi type for the IIe, long stem with plus on them. Not the same as the Mac Plus keyboard (at least not mine. which only has three parts of the + top).
I can swap them for some Alps types I bought by mistake if that helps.
3D print STLs are only useful if you can also print them for me, as I don't have a printer.
(Currently UK based but will import if necessary)
I literally sometimes still RIP CDs with iTunes on Mac OS 9 on my iMac G4. Still works fine—yes, including getting titles from the Internet.
As easy as ever. 🤷
After some wild mathematical hat rendering yesterday, kicked off by @scruss and @paulrickards, I've got John Brooks' ridiculously optimized 10 line Applesoft BASIC program running on the IIe.
(Time-lapse video; the hat takes about 9 minutes to render on the 1MHz IIe.)

For anyone interested in the port of #LuaLang I'm using for #AdventOfCode on the #Ti92 Plus graphing calculator, I've uploaded the patched Lua sources and prebuilt binaries for TI-89 and TI-92+ to https://gitlab.cs.washington.edu/fidelp/lua92
Please let me know if you try it out!
https://beatscribe.itch.io/beastcriber BSR1 is a fully-configurable sound board and drum machine. It comes preloaded with 140 samples and 30 beats with optional bass lines. The demo version has full functionality but only lets you play 120 samples during a single beat activation. #chiptune #lsdj
Super excited to work on this Fujitsu FM Towns II UG20 computer/game console thing. I had never even heard of it before someone contacted me to work on theirs. Saturday's noon eastern stream will be Part 1: disassembling the thing in preparation for recapping. https://youtube.com/live/6BAx3hpVTcg?feature=share
@SuperSelena64 I always think of Space Invaders and Donkey Kong '94 as the marquee Super Game Boy titles. I never knew about Killer Instinct, and I really should try more of my own library with the SGB as long as I've got it.

Anyone have favorite GB/GBC games you'd recommend?
@TerabyteTiger Gargoyle's Quest is one of my favorite games ever. Revenge of the 'Gator is excellent video pinball by HAL Laboratory, of Kirby and Smash Bros. fame. Final Fantasy Legend is a long, elaborate RPG that ate a lot of my batteries as a kid.
