The sender alleges to have found an abandoned diplomatic consignment box during an x-ray scan, which supposedly contains approximately twelve million five hundred thousand US dollars. The sender solicits personal information, including full name, home address, and telephone number, to supposedly confirm the recipient as the beneficiary of this consignment.
The email employs techniques common to scams, such as creating a sense of urgency, promising large sums of money, and requesting personal information. The scenario is crafted to entice the recipient with the lure of unexpected wealth while bypassing logical processes with the promise of quick action. There are also cues in the email that indicate its fraudulent nature, including poor spelling and grammar, use of a generic email service, and the implausible nature of the situation itself. The request for confidentiality is a tactic often used to prevent recipients from seeking advice or verification from third parties.
