@bbcnewsfeed great to see a spotlight on saltmarsh and it’s benefits, carbon storage, protection against coastal erosion and as habitat are all needed.
Nature based solutions are needed alongside emission reduction and protection of areas of existing nature services.

Dornoch Academy pupils did a great job helping restore saltmarsh at a site on the Dornoch Firth last week.
They used plants grown on in a polytunnel at their school, gradually adapted the grasses to increased salt levels, before they were moved to their outdoor growing site. Green Shores are delighted to be working with them!

Green shores.

Volunteers needed: Eden Estuary salt marsh restoration.

9:30 am to 1 pm 17th and 18th of June 2025. Get in touch to sign up.

Why restore salt marshes? They act as buffers to coastal flooding and erosion, are valuable carbon stores, and home to rare biodiversity. The habitat is often degraded and fragmented, but we restore them to provide valuable wildlife habitat and help tackle climate change.

Volunteers needed. We need volunteers to assist with digging and planting for saltmarsh restoration.

Please bring old, warm, waterproof outdoor clothing, wellies, and drinks and snacks.

Sign up and contact us. Please get in touch to sign up and for further details at the following email: greenshores@st-andrews.ac.uk.smiling person holding a plant, standing on an area of mud with saltmarsh planting taking place. two people are in the background, there are fences in the mud to protect the plants as they establish.

Great work done by the lovely volunteers who came out last week to plant at Tayport Common saltmarsh. Over the two days we planted out 1200 plants to help stop erosion, build saltmarsh habitat and store carbon.
Is it bad that we'd like some rain now to help the plants establish?
