Her lab employs multi-disciplinary approaches to identify and define gut microbiome- regulated immune pathways to advance therapeutic development for diseases that stem from gut immune dysregulation in early life, including neurodevelopment, cancer, infection and allergy. Introducing Maccoyibacter gen. nov, a novel bacterial genus named after our IMPACTT Director Dr. Kathy McCoy for her many scientific contributions in the field of microbe-host interactions!

The type species, Maccoyibacter intestinihominis, appears in the newly-published HiBC (Human intestinal Bacteria Collection), a publicly available collection of bacterial strains isolated from the human gut. Check out the publication and the collection here: nature.com/articles/s41467-025
