I’m not sure I understand the excitement around the release of the Epstein files. We’ve known since the summer that the FBI were working on redacting Trump’s name from them. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he ‘changed his mind’ about releasing them just after getting a thumbs-up that the redaction was complete.

@michaelmagras requiring films to have runs in physical locations seems arbitrary and, given the issues we shared about not wanting to go to the theaters at all, surely on the way out.
And requiring voters to see all the nominees? It’s hilarious that wasn’t a requirement before and gave rise to the obvious example of Crash beating out more independent type films like Good Night And Good Luck, I suppose.
How will they enforce it and make sure all the movies have been seen by a voter, I wonder? They could make them physically check in at one of those locations, I guess 😂
@michaelmagras that awards rule is interesting. Was it ever more broad than that, across more of the country, and has since been watered down?
@michaelmagras I think the last movie I saw in a theater was Saving Private Ryan. For the reasons you list, plus fewer ads, the awesome quality of modern TV's (not least being able to set less bombastic volume levels!), makes for a better experience despite all the apps to navigate. Oh, and the rise of quality long season shows instead.
I did find it interesting that the article says that for movies to be considered for awards they have to play at a theater. That surely will end and that will be the end of theaters too, no?

Snowiest pitch I’ve ever seen, even more than the legendary Snow Clasico USMNT game against Costa Rica in Denver back in 2013. Worth watching the video. And kudos to the penalty taker in short sleeves.

At the same time, Mastodon's server devs are creating brilliant features to help decentralise the Fediverse. The v4.5.0 release will auto-federate all replies in threads, greatly helping smaller servers.
The good stuff will be pointless if mastodon.social keeps growing. It's as if Mastodon gGmbH isn't sure what it wants: does it want to build the world's only truly decentralised social network, or does it want to make a centralised social network which is structurally destined to enshittify?

Just finished the epic Don Quixote, the Edith Grossman translation. Very entertaining and readable and often described as the first “modern” novel. After a month of being immersed in tales of knights errant I will miss the company of The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha and his faithful squire Sancho Panza.
