This is what is happening in Minneapolis, the city of my birth. Armed thugs are roaming the city in gangs, stopping people without any legally justifiable cause, and shooting them when they try to escape.

@bajonesns I did a near total frontal face-plant on the way to Almond castle in mud at least 6 inches deep. Ended up stripping down and semi-washing my clothes in a canal to get un-muddy enough that the bus might let me back on.

@bajonesns Spent a month seeing castles in Wales. It was my first castle bagging trip. Would love to spend another.

Good adventure today and saw lots of neat stuff. No bandages today or ripped clothing. Little but muddy. Going to have to get on laundry pronto if I want my pants to be remotely dry by morning.

@bajonesns I mean, I do try. I've only ended up head to toe covered in mud three times this trip and gone through three boxes of bandages and thrown out four garments for being torn beyond respectability. For all that I've done this last year, I'm actually kind of surprised that I haven't broken any bones or seriously maimed myself.

In a cell phone market where it seems like even the high-end models have little to add with every yearly iteration other than faster processors and claims of better battery life that never materialize, adding something like this with real utility would be the sort of thing that would make me buy one model over another. Also give me my Micro SD card slot and headphone ports back.

It would also allow you to charge the device via the top port while holding the phone to your chest in the vertical orientation. With a single port at the bottom, this is often uncomfortable to do and places strain on the cable/port.

Cell phones should have two USB-C ports, not one. They should be at opposite ends of the phone. And the one that is at the top should have some sort of plug to maintain waterproofing. This would provide several advantages. Firstly, one could charge the device while making use of accessories like USB headphone adapters and USB flash drives. It would also prevent your phone from being rendered completely unusable at an inconvenient moment if one of the ports were to get buggered up.

@bajonesns made it down to La Rance, where there are real paths. Think I'll take the proper road back up as some sections of the switchbacks were quite iffy.

@bajonesns I try to have adventures and not misadventures. The path down to the river is very steep but I think manageable. I wish it was better maintained. It's really covered with a lot of slick rotting leaves at the moment.

My energy level has been very low these past two days. Haven't been sleeping well and feeling worn out at a cell deep level. Didn't get out at all yesterday. Weather is so-so today, but going to put my boots on and walk down to a minor castle closer to the river, check out the remaining gates and ramparts of Dinan, which I didn't see on my first day here, check out the basilica and hit up a grocery store so I have something to eat for dinner and breakfast tomorrow. Tomorrow, onward to St Malo.

@HarriettMB @withaveeay Scotland needs to breed HUGE mutant sheep and leave them out in the roads slin the bonny boonies so that tourists hit them and total their rental cars. Call them Highland Speed Bumps.

@johnzajac The public takes no notice of the bomb which doesn’t explode and a lot of people worked very hard to make sure Y2K wasn’t the wide spread systemic disaster it could have been.

@johnzajac I didn’t have the right competancies but I frequently got tasked with patching systems (sometimes involving hardware swapouts) I had no business touching. My boss was slightly less unqualified for some of these tasks and got pulled for it, which is how I came to be taking calls at the company’s interbank fraud desk in August of 99 with next to no experience. Was eye opening to say the least.

@johnzajac Needles to say Summer of 99 was a very busy few months of last minute patching and trying to pull anyone with the right competencies out of the woodwork at the same time a million people at other companies were trying to do the same.

@johnzajac I worked a temp gig for EDS Transalliance (One of Ross Perot’s companies) in the summer of 99 and they had all sorts of systems deeply involved in credit card stuff and bank transfers and reconciliation snd a lotnifbthe banks and credit unions involved were small and with a wide variety of archaic systems and processes. Some of them were still doing reconciliation by tape.

@Mossop Dust and thermal instability are both bad. The dust is going to get into the thin oils used for lubricating the slide rails.
