Itchy Demon

I am a very itchy demon. You can find me on The Mana World. I am also a mapper on Open Street Maps and a Linux-using privacy obsessive.

Technically speaking, casting a black man as Severus Snape does not violate canon as his skin color is never explicitly specified. Yes, he is described as having pale/sallow skin, but these *CAN* be used to describe black people. I am not familiar with Paapa Essiedu's work, but as someone who is "color-blind" when it comes to people, I am fully willing to give him a chance in the .

@BryanGreyson Three words: Blunt-tipped syringe

@TechConnectify An accessibility feature that is not accessible? How novel! I'm glad someone is trying to raise awareness for this, especially since we still have a long ways to go before physical media disappears despite what the young'uns and Silicon Valley folks seem to think.

@Myotis_cuniculus RE Other inks: There are two ways to do this. One is by buying an ink bottle and a converter (you need to buy from Platinum since they use a proprietary design), which is basically a refillable cartridge; it's called a converter because it "converts" a cartridge pen into a bottle-filling pen. The other options is to buy a syringe with a blunt-tipped needle along with an ink bottle; you would then use the syringe to transfer ink into an empty cartridge.

@Myotis_cuniculus RE 2: It can take some time for the feed to saturate with ink when install a cartridge, and this can cause it to have trouble starting for awhile. You can help this along by gently squeezing the cartridge or by holding it nib-down for a few minutes. As for it hard-starting, this is usually caused by "baby's bottom", which happens if the tip is over-polished. You can try contacting the retailer/manufacturer to fix it, or look up nib smoothing.

RE 1: Some pens are "smoother" than others, ranging from very scratchy to warm butter on polished glass. The sound can't be entirely gotten rid of though. When you press, you are splaying the tines which can interfere with ink flow if they get too far apart.

I found some Sheaffer Cadet & School pens at a local creative reuse shop. They are already restored to perfect condition with amazingly smooth nibs and (for the Cadets) good ink sacs. I been a fan of these pens for years, so I'm glad to have found these in.

P.S. I am already aware of the supposed dangers of putting Noodler's in vintage pens & rubber ink sacs. I have not had any issues after nearly a decade of collecting vintage pens, so I am willing to take the risk.

@FRONTINE_LeFEVRE Well our pens do need a little help with all those aches and pains after so much writing! 😅 😜

What are your favorite permanent inks? I mostly use Noodler's, but I'd to expand my ink collection, though various factors have me relying almost exclusively on permanent inks.

A question to who brew at or above 40g/liter: how do you mitigate the harsh taste and high acidity of higher brew rations? I struggle to stomach anything above about 30g/liter, both in terms of harsh taste and in terms of how the acid affects my stomach. Yes, I have tried coarser grind setting, lower brew temperatures, and even cold brew (yes, I know, sacrilege...), but this doesn't help at above 40g/liter.

@paradoxmo @backtoanalog I am aware that many pen repair folks recommend against Noodler's. However, I use the bulletproof inks nearly exclusively owing to the needs of my job and personal life, and I have put them in all manner of vintage pens (including ink sacs and feeds of various materials) without issue. As far as I'm concerned, all the talk of Noodler's ruining pens is just fearmongering. The only issue I ever had is clogging due to the inks being super-saturated.

Eragon theory: The Menoa Tree wanted something of Eragon in exchange for something. I think the tree wanted human/elf children. The Menoa Tree is a combination of two beings: the tree itself, and the Elf-woman Linnëa, who is not known to have had children prior to singing herself into the tree. After being in contact with the Menoa Tree, Eragon felt a slight discomfort around is stomach where his "seeds" would be stored after being produced.

@backtoanalog *Most* Noodler's inks are pH neutral, or close to. The ones with "extreme" properties (e.g. Baystate, which is prone to staining plastics) may not be. See:

@backtoanalog I have used Noodler's inks in everything from the 1890's to today with all sorts of filling mechanisms without issue. Aside from some staining issues with the Baystate inks, I have never had any issues. Perhaps you can enlighten me, but I have not had any issues using Noodler's inks in my vintage pens or come across any reason not to trust them, nor do I understand why so many people are averse to them. (I am ignoring the controversies, which I find quite overblown.)

I am inclined to believe you on that considering it definitely feels of modern plastic and it has a plastic (not ebonite) feed. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the design were, at least, "inspired" by earlier pens given the design of the clip.

I found a Senator Regent. Sources seem inconsistent on when it was made -- some say 1930's, others say 1960's or 1970's. The nib needed a bit of tuning to get enough ink through to write reliably, but otherwise it is in excellent condition. Considering the ink that's in it, it seems to be a fairly dry writer, which is much to my advantage since I tend to use cheap paper.
