When an LLM is 'right' it has no more comprehension of its rightness than it does its wrongness when it is 'wrong'. In both cases it is showing patterns of words that match the 'right' pattern of words.
In many cases this will result in the right words, especially when its base training data has that pattern component impressed many many times. When the pattern is less common then it still outputs a 'correct' pattern just one that gives the wrong words/image/sound/etc.

That's why it mostly "works"... but there are some quirks where it doesn't look or act quite as expected, differing a bit based on each person's custom-compiled patched fork of Wine.
Sometimes it even takes more resources than expected, causing the CPU to throttle, IO to stall (making language processing and memory access problematic), and audio/visual inputs to glitch.
@jeffowski @actuallyautistic I totally hear you. I approach small talk conversations with strangers by giving myself instructions in my head about what would be expected of me. Things like: this person just told me something funny about their dog, now you should have an amused reaction, then you should ask a clarifying question. Then you should say something funny about your own dog too, etc.
It's exhausting, but it's the only way of managing 'normal' interactions.

I don't want to be repetative or anything but I want to say again how grateful I am for alt text on posts about protests. By Including me as a Blind person, and others who benefit from alt text, you're resisting the dark side and its agenda.

As far as Steam, yeah it has DRM but it's one of the least obnoxious I've come across in terms of impact to the user (I can still copy my Steam Doom3 files over to play in RBDoom3BFG on Linux) and I have spent 3 months completely offline with Steam previously.

Hey, folks who understand alt text and limited vision accessibility:
I have need to write alt text for the diagram below. The alt text needs to be comprehensible to somebody who is encountering this kind of diagram for the ••very first time••. I could describe the images using the relevant jargon, but that would only serve people who already know the thing this activity is teaching them!
Any suggestions for how I could write good alt text for something like this? Is it possible? (The horizontal black bars are minus signs, i.e. subtraction. This is clear from context in the text, but probably not clear in the image.)
PLEASE NOTE: I am looking for people with ••relevant accessibility expertise••, not just random best shots from people who (like me) don’t really know much about this kind of problem.
