Yes. That's the whole reason to make demos.

Sure, some folks obsess over some things. People obsess over lots of things. For some people, that's fun. For people who don't obsess over those things, it's important that they have fun also.

I think the community has managed to 'grow up' enough where that's possible, while still having the whole 'childlike joy' of making something/seeing something.

Yes, we're more open to ladies, enby, trans, gay, and even folks of color - though we're rather weak on the latter - BUT:
Like any microcosm of the overall planet, there are folks who still have issues with change - but there are far more of us who don't have issues and very much encourage _everyone_ to be involved. It's a great hobby.

This does NOT mean you're not welcome if you fit into (or don't) those categories. Some folks will suggest that, as everywhere. And when you have no more spoons for that sort of thing, well... those of us who would like to see more participation from all types of people (except fascists, racists, and other malignant types) would say "take the time you need but don't leave. You HAVE support."
