Not sure whether I should laugh or cry, but a simple timeframe description caused random hitches and slowed the UI down. Instruments helped me track it down, and caching the description fixes it for now. Amazing how much impact a "simple" text can have…

My new app is coming together nicely. It's currently in closed beta and will hopefully be released to the public this month, or at the latest, in early February. There's already so much to explore, and the list of additional feature ideas is still growing.

A brief service announcement: Today is the perfect day to install the important security updates you’ve been postponing all year on all your servers. Yes, even that old, crappy Raspberry Pi you shoved under the staircase and hoped everyone would forget about.

Happy New Year! 🎉

Is there any way to make a native macOS settings window resizable, like the Xcode preferences window? No matter what modifiers I try, I can't get it to work.

@dandylyons Thanks. Not that I am aware of. However, I have printed my icons in multiple colors, but then you are obviously limited by the complexity of your icons and the capabilities of your printer.

I tried something fun today: printing one of my app’s icon with an NFC tag embedded inside. For this, I designed a coin-shaped chamber where I inserted the tag during a pause in the print. Now, holding the icon near your iPhone automatically opens the app’s page.

@teilweise Honestly, I think this is fine. There is no scenario (at least in Apple's apps) where we need a close and cancel button in the same view. Yes, if there is a confirm button, it is a cancel button, as it indicates a loss of something. If there isn't something to lose, it is a close button. I think a checkmark for close wouldn't be appropriate when we look at the red window close button on macOS, which also uses an x.

@tobias I am too young to know that 😅 But I highly appreciate having a uniform definition for common buttons. I assume this is also a welcoming change for improving accessibility.

Did you know iOS 26 introduces a new button initializer that only takes a role and an action as parameters?
Based on the role, a fully localized label with a custom icon is generated. This also provides a native way to get the sheet close and confirm buttons.

I've now updated all iOS screenshots on exploreswiftui.com with their Liquid Glass variants. Additionally, the code is now formatted much more nicely, and the screenshot variant is now synced with the browser’s dark mode setting.

Exploreswiftui.com will soon see a big update with dedicated support for Liquid Glass. I’ll update screenshots of existing elements while keeping the flat versions. This also enables exploring the new language and comparing it with the old flat design.

@chockenberry Are you still using quaternarySystemFill or have you found a different solution?

I’ve been experimenting with mesh gradients lately as colorful backgrounds that dynamically adapt to the content that’s being shown.

I've finally managed to fully rebuild the Liquid Glass icon of WhaleDeck in 3D 🥳 Let's see how it actually looks when it's finally printed.

After fine-tuning the settings and model a bit, I’m happy with the result. A few more icons to go!

Here’s a fun weekend project: printing my app icons in 3D. I’ll start with DriveDex because it’s the easiest to model.
