It was ten years ago this month that my dad passed away. This is the second-to-last photo I took of him, on Thanksgiving of the previous year. I'm not a portrait photographer; this was a spontaneous grab shot walking him home after a nice dinner. Neither of us thought much about it. Now it's a precious gift to myself.
If you're thinking of making a photo, do it while you can.
