This space is for anyone navigating life after cancer. There is life beyond the diagnosis! I'm a 10-year brain cancer survivor, former FDA consultant and college professor—now a full-time mom of four teens, living a new kind of life on disability. I’m here to support others finding their way after remission. 💛
I hope to publish my book "You Beat Cancer Now What?" Fall 2025. I just received my edits back from the editor, so currently in the editing process!

Survivorship is not the happy ending people imagine.

It’s:

Fatigue that makes daily tasks a mountain

Fear that follows clear scans

Food that tastes different

Relationships that change

A new identity you never asked for

But it is also:

Strength you never knew you had

Gratitude that runs deeper

A second chapter you get to write

Let’s talk about healing after remission.

Raising kids after cancer means parenting with honesty, vulnerability, and a whole lot of grace. It’s okay if it’s messy. It’s okay if you need help. And it’s okay if "letting go" brings tears and pride in equal measure.
No matter their age—your presence matters more than perfection.
💬 If you’ve parented through or after cancer, what helped you the most?

🎓 Parenting After Cancer: From Infants to Independence 💙

If you’re a parent who’s walked through cancer, you know the journey doesn’t end when treatment does. Whether your child is learning to walk or learning to live on their own, survivorship brings a new kind of parenting challenge.

➡ How do you explain fatigue to a five-year-old?
➡ How do you support your teen when you’re still rebuilding yourself?
➡ How do you let go when college drop-off feels like both a triumph and a loss?

It’s a rainy day where I live—perfect weather to stay indoors and finally tackle those little tasks we’ve been putting off.
Rainy days can also bring extra aches or fatigue. If you’re feeling it, give yourself permission to slow down. A warm cup of tea, a hot shower, or a heating pad can bring comfort. Gentle yoga or stretching might be just enough to keep your body moving without overdoing it.
How are you making the most of today?

As a cancer survivor, did you ever feel angry? Why me?

This is a valid emotion! It's healthier to accept the emotion, let it wash over you, process through it then move on. Yet, bottling up the feelings is like a soda being shaken and then opened up.

Death We fight so hard against our final status, but we never truly win. Learning to live our lives to the best of our abilities is our most important takeaway from cancer. Each day is a present. We need to make the most of them. Cherish those you hold dear. Take the time to tell them you love them.

Pain. Pain during cancer treatment and pain when you're in remission. It can be debilitating to be in pain. Taking it slow and steady, giving yourself grace not to complete one more project, or do one more load of dishes. It's okay to do less.

On your good days, take advantage of your increased energy. Sort through that pile of miscellaneous things that's been piling up. Take a longer walk. Meet up with a friend for some tea. Enjoy the extra energy. Go with the flow helps as we adjust to our post-cancer self.

Happy Easter! Holidays can be a challenging time for those fighting cancer. Fraught with anger over having cancer, the changes you face, but also thankful for being alive. It's okay to feel both ways; nothing has to be black and white. Gray is acceptable. You're a survivor.

Running on fumes today? We’ve all had those nights where sleep never moves past twilight, and morning greets us with sandbags for eyelids. Ask yourself: Which tasks truly matter right now? Fatigue isn’t failure; it’s your body tapping the brakes. Honor it, recalibrate, then press on. Almost all cancer patients experience fatigue. Some are lucky, as it's a passing side-effect, but many are left with it permanently. @YouBeatCancerNowWhat
