A little day job pimping: Learn more about our next Gen Con/CMich Applied Game Design class w/ designer Eloy Lasanta over on the Gen Con blog today: “Ready to Learn the Art of Gamecrafting?” Class starts Oct 9! gencon.blog/2023/09/27/ready-t

What’s up, Drew? Oh nothing, just pushing orders for the Rising Waters Kickstarter from Backerkit to Shipstation and then pushing them on to our fulfillment warehouse, like you do, except “bulk actions” aren’t working in Shipstation, so I have to push each order to the warehouse 1 at a time.

A candid look at tonight’s session/playtest of Rainy City Barnacle Ball, using The Fantasy Trip. It’s the 1st time I’ve ever run TFT. The Swete Meats, a Vagabond Bay based team of amateur carvers, dropped a hammer on the visiting team from the Sump in a barnacle-encrusted alleyway off the docks. We had quite a lot of fun with this. The return match in the Sump will be in 2 weeks! #TTRPG # RainyCityRPG

The #Voyager probes raised perplexing questions as they exited the Solar System. Now, scientists have conceived new missions to #interstellar #space.

Researchers are pushing NASA to build the Interstellar Probe, which would explore the plasma environment of the #Sun and interstellar space. It would follow in the footsteps of Voyager 1 and 2, which NASA launched in 1977.

15 year old me (circa 1979) had NO IDEA where this was going to end up when he first invented the Githyanki for a D&D campaign then submitted them to Don Turnbull for the Fiend Factory column in White Dwarf (which begat the Fiend Folio, and the rest is history) ...

Chat thread on GAMEPLAY

Subject: Penises C and D no longer clip through some githyanki clothing.

The fascinating thing about this particular patch note is that it implies the game engine is fully rendering your character's penis at all times, not just when you take your pants off.

Reply from trpgcafe

I'd say it was because they were accurately rendering the bulge, but if they're clipping through, that clearly can't be the case either.

Reply from prokopetz

Even if they wanted the bulges to be meticulously accurate, the sensible approach would have been to include a hidden penis size slider in the mesh for the trousers. That way, you could render the trousers with a bulge of appropriate dimensions baked into the mesh and simply switch the penis off whenever it's fully covered; it'd be hugely computationally cheaper than doing fabric simulation to
determine the bulge dimensions dynamically, you'd save on running needless penis physics calculations whose results will never be seen by the player, and there'd be no risk of penis clipping. The way they currently seem to be doing it is just sloppy penis optimisation.

We're nearing the last 48 hours for the Five Hundred Year Old Vampire Backerkit campaign from CMich Press. Backers have added some great value to the project thru stretch goals. Now is the time to jump on board and pledge if you haven't already! Help us finish strong! #TTRPG

The vast majority of America's debt collection targets $500-2,000 credit card debts. It is a filthy business, operated by lawless firms who hire unskilled workers drawn from the same economic background as their targets, who routinely and grotesquely flout the law, but only when it comes to the people with the *least* ability to pay.

A tableau this Friday evening: a view of my game room as I prepare for tonight’s game night while I blast Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning” album. On the docket: another Alterity playtest. Basically we’re seeing how long we can go before we utterly break shit in the game. So far so good! #TTRPG

A view of my gaming table, mostly clear except for a laptop and some game materials, with a messy white board and paperback bookshelf on the far wall and gaming bookshelves on the left wall. Patio door on the right is all washed out due to sun and rain.

First swim of August, after a week off for Gen Con. This was all 200yd intervals. After also walking to and from the gym, I’m utterly wiped.

The best part of RPGs is they never spoil. Even if they spend 10 years on your shelf unplayed, you can play them today just as you would when you bought them.

On our weekend away, we played 'The Price of Coal', A GM-less game about labour rights in 20s West Virginia. We didn't record it, but we had such a good time playing that we had to do a full write-up and #review.

If you enjoy roleplay-driven games or games that span several seasons like A Quiet Year, then I think you'll love this.

Check out the full review: rollplusheart.co.uk/blog/the-p

On a turquoise background with purple details is the quote 'A thoughtful, emotional game that leaves no room for half-measures, The Price of Coal demands a lot from you, but gives a great deal in return. - RPH on the Price of Coal'.

To the right, a circular icon shows worn letters saying 'The Price of Coal' with an oil painting of a mountain in the background. To the side of this is the Roll Plus Heart Logo.

@Tim_Eagon Glad you’re enjoying it. It’s super versatile when it comes to game systems to pair it with. We’ve run it with B/X, The Fantasy Trip, Castle Falkenstein, Warhammer Fantasy, RQ6/Mythras, 5E, Into the Odd, and our own home brew Skeleton Game System. We’re also prepping future zines that use systems like Mörk Borg, Blades in the Dark, and Troika to showcase this versatility. I bought Pirate Borg this week at Gen Con to see if a cool Rainy City pirate campaign could come from it!

I'm only half way through reading the Visitor's Guide to the Rainy City. Is it one of the best (system neutral) settings I've read in a long time? Yeah! Do I want to set a game there? Fuck yeah!
