@seachanger @AlaskaWx …and I hope hijinks?

As of 3/12/23, all 122 NWS stations that Iowa State University created rss feeds for are now published on Mastodon. The best way to find them is to search for "iembot_" and the three letter assigned to the NWS forecast office. These are not official bots from the NWS or Iowa State University. They were put together by a group of "weather intensive" people in order to inform like minded Mastodon users of weather forecasts and other reports that the National Weather Service in the US sends out.

Wind speed on Keystone Ridge. Seems like I can’t mix video and stills 😞

Clouds cleared out on Keystone Ridge with a freshening south wind. Only a trace of rain in the last 24 hrs. Really helped with the mosquitoes. #MyAlaskaWx

My dog looks and is crazed when it comes to fetching, on land or in water. #DogsOfMastodon #dogs

A white dog with a wild look in her eye is just starting to leap off a dock into water. The man who threw her toy stands on a beach in the background.

@Climatologist49 @AlaskaWx @leepetersen Some anvils popping up south of Murphy Dome - looks like the Clear/Anderson area.

@CarrieNash @seachanger @SilverSalmonAK On a happy note, the dragon flies are here and gobbling up mosquitoes

Beautiful clouds are the advantage of unsettled weather. Pardon the mesh screen artifact.

Orange clouds over spruce trees.

@Climatologist49 @CarrieNash @AlaskaWx Only 0.13” observed on Keystone Ridge through 10pm. The 75 yr return period is for a single station — over a larger area, with such discrete precip, extreme rates probably are happening more frequently than we know.

Only 0.1” so far, but Keystone Ridge is getting a nice mini-soak this evening. Which is good as we had lots of lightning to kick it off. #MyAlaskaWx

At mid and high latitudes the June solstice marks the point in the year with the maximum solar heating. Here in Fairbanks the sun's up for 22 hours today, which almost but not quite gives us has much solar heating as the mid-latitudes get with much shorter daylight length (40N here for illustration). In a few weeks solar high latitude heating will start falling rapidly. Dropoff takes longer at the mid-lats. #akwx #Climate @Climatologist49

Plot of daily solar heating for Fairbanks (65N) and Philadelphia (40N) through the year.

@AlaskaWx A misty, moisty, morning on Keystone Ridge. 48°F with 0.10” of rain over the previous 24 hours and fog in the Goldstream valley and on the north flank of Ester Dome. #myalaskawx
