Don’t fear death; it is a natural law. Don’t celebrate life; it is a natural law. Instead, celebrate good character and fear bad character, for these are your own creations. They are what truly elevate you—or consume you—in this life and the afterlife.

We can use our dreams to fuel our motivation, but our steps must be guided by reality, otherwise we will fail. We must be able to differentiate between dream and reality.

The judge in the case has threatened to order the government of India to shut down Wikipedia in India.

Nishant Shah, professor of Global Media at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and faculty associate at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, and journalist Nikhil Phawa characterized the judge's order to WMF to release the identities of the editors who made the edits as censorship and a threat to the flow of information.

Asian News International vs. Wikimedia Foundation (CS(OS) 524/2024) is an ongoing civil defamation case in India.

ANI Media Private Limited, the parent company of news agency Asian News International (ANI), filed a ₹2 crore (approximately US$240,000) defamation suit against the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF), over the description of ANI in the English Wikipedia article about the news agency.…

It's sad seeing Wikipedia in the crosshairs like this, but we're likely to see more of this from authoritarian states, the BRICS nations, and groups aligned with them.

Truth is their enemy, and Wikipedia is universally adored for actually doing a decent job at preserving truth in this post-truth era.

In a disturbing update to the ANI vs. #Wikipedia defamation case in #India 🇮🇳, the #Wikimedia Foundation agreed to disclose user details of accounts that have added the defamatory content to the article about ANI, the litigious Indian news agency at the center of the case. What those user details could be there is no info, but I imagine that if these accounts have email addresses attached, then these would be included, as well as any recent IP addresses used.

Religion is not something that drives one to madness with joy, but rather something that immerses one in contemplation and reflection in silence.

Open sound and air pollution in the name of a festival—#Diwali—is unacceptable. I hope to see a day when this uncivilized practice is completely banned in my country . Indeed, not only during Diwali but in other public celebrations as well.

One stands in armour, ready bound to fight,
Another bears the brunt, hidden from sight…
The enemy may be distant, a stranger’s face,
Yet scars of enmity land at a different place…

The cat knows. The dog knows. The turtle knows. The frog knows. Do you know?

Sitting
Cat sits in the sun.
Dog sits in the grass.
Turtle sits on the rock.
Frog sits on the lily pad.
Why aren't people so smart?
Those who follow Tao are fond of pointing out the wisdom of animals. When they see a cat sitting motionless in the sun or a turtle who stretches her head upward in a still pose, they say that these animals are meditating. They know how to be still and conserve their internal energy. They do not dissipate themselves in useless activity but instead withdraw into themselves to recharge.
It is only people who label meditation as some sort of odd religious activity. This is not the actual case. Something like meditation happens when we sleep, or when we are absorbed in reading a book, or when we "daydream" and become so lost in a thought or an image that we do not notice what is going on around us.
There is no reason to think of meditation as something out of the ordinary. Quite the opposite. Meditation is the purest and most natural expression we can have. When you next look at a cat or a dog sitting still and admire the naturalness of their actions, think then of your own life. Don't meditate because it is a part of your schedule or is demanded oy tate because it is a part of your schedule or is demanded by your particular philosophy. Meditate because this is natural.

Belief is a rest for the mind and shouldn't be mistaken for ultimate truth. Rest is essential and should be temporary; when the time demands it, we should resume the journey of discovering new truths. If we decline to do so and continue to rest forever, we will begin to stagnate and ultimately be replaced by other intelligent beings under the process of natural law.

“The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum — even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate.”
—Noam Chomsky
