@eickot @AsahiLinux of course it is, maintaining out of tree code is a pain and a resource sink that could be used to write missing drivers or improve existing ones

Our Touch Bar driver is now queued for merge into the mainline Linux 6.15 kernel, lightening our fork by a thousand lines 😄

..and there's more upstreaming news to come 😉

It's taken a while for me to figure out why fsf.org/news/anchoring-the-fsf bothered me so much, and in the end I think it's that the FSF doesn't recognise its unique position in the free software community. Sure, if people sufficiently disagree with the FSF they could start up their own foundation - but the FSF has unique control over the GPL, one of the bedrocks of free software

@carnage4life He made a mistake by saying something that is pretty much a well recognized problem by the entire industry, how is that pride?

This is a horrible supply chain risk for the entire world economy, he is an aspiring competitor and he is supposed not to say anything about it? Are you kidding me?

This piece to me seems more like an op piece aimed at damaging Pat on behalf of someone who wants him out than an exercise of journalism.

with the debian popularity contest package we can finally know who truly won the editor war:

rank 1164: vim 86893 installs
rank 4264: emacs 12198 installs
rank 4321: ed 11992 installs
rank 5841: neovim 6980 installs
well that settles it. vim is the most popular editor by far--

wait. what's that in the distance

...
rank 123: nano 229022 installs

by god, it's nano with a steel chair!

@pluralistic
I was in Long Beach in 2012 when Nick Hanauer gave his, "It's absolute bullshit that the rich are job creators" TED talk. I was so eager to share it with co-workers and friends, I checked the TED site every day waiting for them to post it. I gave up after six months

It eventually showed up on youtube but I don't think TED ever put it on their site or even linked to it. I'm surprised they welcomed him back to the main stage just a couple years later

I just wanted to run signal-desktop on my Linux system and somehow that resulted in me building a copy of chromium. again.

I miss the days when applications were nice and focused, not "lets depend on a giant browser that's probably riddled with security bugs"

Me to Microsoft: You can avoid a whole class of vulnerability if non-admin users can't create subdirectories off of the root directory. You should fix this.

MS: Nah.

Me: Well, you folks should probably at least run Crassus on your code.

MS: Nah.

msrc.microsoft.com/update-guid

Crassus results on a system with AzureConnectedMachineAgent 1.43 :

We can create the missing c:\__w\1\vcpkg\packages\openssl_x64-windows directory to place openssl.cnf (64-bit, System Integrity)Procmon log of openssl.cnf being read with System privileges, leading to the spawning of calc.exe with System privileges.
