🐿️ Nutkin

I'm an artist. I like nerd stuff. I curse. I like some woowoo. I'm grappling with making money ethically while detesting the rot of capitalism. I am furious about how the internet has gone to shit and I will go to great lengths to starve the corpos of my tasty data for no reason but pure spite. I'm kinda over the "world wide" web and I'm a lot more interested in the local web.

I moved to Alaska by choice in 2005, lived in Washington DC area 2018-2021, back to Anchorage since 2022.

@AlaskaWx @EBecker Right?? You can still do it the old way!

It's an excuse, what she doesn't like is her preferred candidate losing due to suddenly obvious unpopularity. It can't be that the candidate is bad, no, it's the new voting system that is wrong.

2024-06-06

@EBecker I have dim views about people who oppose RCV and that article did nothing to make me reconsider. They're either dinosaurs or cheats or both.

My MIL thinks it's "too hard". Like, how do you grocery shop? Grocery shopping is nothing but lots of ranking and choosing. I don't get it.

Man these art challenges always sound like a good idea at the time and you get behind and you're like, yeah, I can knock out a couple drawings today no problem, and then you have to run errands and make dinner and clean the kitchen and it's 10pm and you're picking up the pencil and then it's midnight and you're like, fuck it, TOMORROW is the magic catch up day where I will do a couple drawings ...

Tomorrow is totally the magic catch up day.

Day 4 - #juneblooms

Forget-me-not and stellar's jay. More like don't forget to give me PEANUTS PEANUTS PEANUTS

An ink and pencil drawing on brown toned paper, shown propped against a few sprigs of Forget-me-nots. In the drawing, a stellar's jay screams in joy amid sprigs of the small five petaled flowers.

@NickGates Global Credit Union is a common one. I can't vouch for the service personally.

Seems like it's time to check our mask supply and make sure we're stocked up. I dunno what's going on with this bird flu but by the time the authorities agree it is serious, it will be too late.

It might be time to bite the bullet and switch to local meat sources, too. And collect more good meatless recipes.

Would our corporate overlords knowingly sell us infected meat and animal products? Guess we'll find out.

Not feeling so hot today. Maybe I got dehydrated yesterday, maybe my flippant disregard for my own rules about caffeine caught up to me. I feel like my head is crammed full of wasps.

Day 3 #juneblooms - Only one tulip survived the spring moose massacre. It's a lovely yellow tulip on my neighbor's side of the fence.

I think the smoothie recipe I've been working on is about done. I had to get more ingredients today. I have a couple experimental things left to try but I will have the final version this week.

All I want is a perfect drinkable meal in a cup with no cooking and minimal cleaning. Like soylent but without the processing and cheaper.

@feelnotes @anildash You are braver than I am. Here's hoping things get better.

2024-06-03

@feelnotes @anildash I think that's why this authoritarian/fascist political trend is so upsetting. Because it enforces the system as the authorities want it to be (infallible, unquestionable), and leaves people unable to face reality (and their participation in it) for what it is. And if you can't see it clearly, you'll reject efforts to make it better.

I'm glad I don't have kids. Parenting must be a nightmare.

2024-06-03

@feelnotes @anildash This should be taught to all teenagers, before they go into the world all fresh with Ideas and then get exploited because the adult world doesn't work how they were taught it should work. The world is working exactly as intended.

I wish adults would stop passing on the burden of "changing the world" to their children, and then viciously sabotaging the young adults that try. But that's the system, right? So we all get broken into learned helplessness?

He says he thinks he likes the new site better than the old one. He says they have more shuttle buses running to compensate for the lack of immediate parking.

Sounds like a thumbs up.

Meme of a yellow rose saying " The pH of this soil is too high. I am going to die" and below it a dandelion growing through a crack saying " F*** yeah, concrete!"
2024-06-03

@VulcanTourist Last year I totally would have done that. But now I've made up a story for it and I'm kinda on it's side. 🤔 Might have to make dandelion wine out of it.

Day 2 #juneblooms - carnivorous #dandelion hydra.

I have this stubborn grandaddy of a dandelion that has found a little gap in the concrete and is exploiting it for all it's worth. Last year I put a bunch of homemade weed killer (salt & vinegar) on it and look at this bastard, laughing at me. You have to admire that kind of tenacity.

I could spend another hour on this drawing but I really have to limit myself. You burn out easy on these art challenges if you try to do too much.

Ink drawing of an imagined carnivorous dandelion plant, propped against a real dandelion plant. Multiple flower heads are reaching into the sky. One has opened its mouth in hopes of catching a passing bee.My granddaddy dandelion, growing out of a crack in the cement at the corner of a deck. It is a thick bundle of arrow notched leaves and long stemmed flowers, close to 2' high.

@EBecker Ooo thanks I need to get some brewing stuff!

Very clever doing small mason jar batches. The recipe doesn't look hard.

Spouse is off at 3 Barons ren fair, hobnobbing with his disreputable whackbat (larp) friends. The moved the site to Russian Jack Park this year, which means we are in walking distance, so that's nice. I hear there were issues with the old site including cost, that forced the move, but I am suspicious of change and Russian Jack sounds like a downgrade. Spouse will scout and tell me if it sucks now.

I have discovered the elk desktop app. I am feeling foolish for not trying it sooner. The website wasn't giving me notifications and I had to remember to check (once I figured out it wasn't giving me notifications). Plus it slowed the browser to a crawl sometimes. The elk layout is more intuitive, I think.

Still learning the ropes with mastodon but it seems to have stuck this time.
