@mapcar You are right, tiling is not the real issue here (besides the fact that I often need line wrapping when tiling), it’s a question of whether or not it is possible to let the table-part of an org buffer escape line wrapping while letting the rest of the buffer containing prose keep it

I feared this day would come:

Trump puts human rights organisations on sanctions list and forces YouTube to delete their accounts, thereby erasing 700 videos documenting Israeli war crimes.

As a political commentator on YouTube, this news is profoundly troubling for me. And yes, I clearly need a plan B.

Emacs question: I'm using dwm, and if I have my Emacs window open with tiling turned on my orgmode tables gets messed up due to text/line wrapping. Toggle-truncate-line will fix this but then line wrapping is disabled and lines of text in the rest of the orgmode files will continue way outside of my screen real estate. Can I have it both ways, ie I want my orgmode table to render properly but the rest of the lines of text in the orgmode file to still be wrapped.

#CapitalistRealism exposed: This email isn't a prediction of #socialism; it's an autopsy of late #capitalism. #PeterThiel identifies the system's fatal flaw: when people can't own anything, they stop believing in ownership itself. He’s not forecasting a revolution; he's stating a simple, brutal equation: no stake in the system equals no faith in the system. This email is one of the most quietly revealing artifacts of the entire post-2008 era.

An email from Peter Thiel dated January 5, 2020, discussing Millennials' attitudes toward socialism. Thiel argues against dismissing their views and suggests understanding the economic challenges they face, such as student debt and housing affordability. Addressed to Mark Zuckerberg, Nick Clegg, Antonio Lucio, Sheryl Sandberg, Marc Andreessen.

russia’s war in #Ukraine has caused 236M tonnes of CO₂ emissions - equal to Austria, Hungary, Czechia, and Slovakia’s annual output - and $43B in climate damage.

Warfare, fires, and infrastructure destruction make it a top pollution source, harming the environment far beyond Ukraine’s borders.

The world must act to stop further damage.

This image is an infographic highlighting the environmental impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The graphic states that the conflict has resulted in **236 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e) emissions in just 3 years**. The visual includes imagery of missiles, industrial smokestacks, and a map of Ukraine, emphasizing the serious climate damage caused by the war. The source of the photo is credited to Espresso TV.

In Norway a lot of people send their kids to Waldorf-schools (Steinerskolen) because the selling point is that they focus more on creativity, free expression and less on testing but I’ve been skeptical. (2/2)

@mrundkvist Parts of anthroposophy is definitely cultish (and potentially dangerous) though there are exceptions. I have some friends from university (philosophy studies) who juggled Steiner, Hegel and Nietzsche and were in the «not crazy» camp of anthroposophy though I find it hard to draw the line between the reasonable and the more cultish parts of the movement. When you become disabled there’s a few things you notice right away:

Ableism is everywhere.

People will abandon you. Even those you were certain would stick by you.

Just because something is illegal or against human rights code doesn’t mean it’s not happening ALL the time
Accessibility is not what it should be.

People will blame you for your disabilities. It won’t matter what you do or how hard you try, you won’t be “good enough”

All the misconceptions you had about disabled people were wrong.
That’s really the crux of it.

Disability is a minority group you can join anytime.

Most people will experience disability in their lifetime

Yet discriminating against us is not only common it’s socially acceptable.
Most people don’t realize how misguided they are until it happens to them

Many of us living with chronic illness had the same preconceived notions about disabled people until we became disabled ourselves

We thought it wasn’t “that bad”.

We believed we would be the exception
Many of us became advocates because the realization that we were so horribly wrong shook us to our core.

If we had that much ableism to work through, then so does everyone else.

That’s why we need strong allies.

We need people who will say disabled lives matter.
We need to shift the public perception away from the idea that disability is a moral failing.

We need to be visible, take up space and help people realize that all health is temporary and disability happens to almost everyone.

Inclusion and accessibility matter!

I would respect Chuck Schumer more if he simply said, "Look, if I vote for and support Mamdani, even though he's the duly elected Democratic nominee, then I will lose immense funding from our billionaire donors. And I can't take that risk."

That way, while his position is still indefensible, at least it's honest. Right now, his refusal to support Mamdani, while lying about it, shows that Schumer is both feckless, and a liar.

As low as the bar is, I prefer an honest coward to a deceptive one.

Thinking that I might start adding something like this to more of the software I write.

Text that reads:

# Provenance

This software is proudly and fondly written, maintained, used - and most crucially - understood by real human beings. While we can't personally attest to the provenance of every line of code ever contributed, the vast majority of the codebase has certainly been developed without the aid of large language models and other stochastic 'intelligence'.

While the GPLv3 may not guarantee warranty 'of any kind', you can at least use this software in the comforting knowledge that its veracity and coherence is vouched for by sentient intelligence with skin in the game and a reputation to uphold.

# Contribution guidelines

We expect contributors to adhere to the ethos of the project.

Source code is not an artifact, an intermediate representation, nor a bothersome annoyance whose creation is to be offloaded to metal and transistors. Source code is a source of truth - the only source of truth that constitutes this software project - and it deserves to be understood and curated by the accountable and reasoned mind of a human being.

Please refrain from contributing changes that you have not personally understood and instigated the authorship of. We do not expect perfection, but we do expect you to personally understand your own motivations and decisions.

Just to be clear. MAGAs are gutting:
•Medicaid—which 60M Americans rely on to survive
•SNAP—which 42M Americans rely on to eat
•School Lunch—which 30M kids rely on daily
•Housing Assistance—which 5M families rely on to live

ALL to cut $4.5T in taxes for 800 Billionaires

This Is Barbaric.

Very true, but only an a-fortiori of what many of us in the democratic, wealthy West in the late 20th century feel:
We thought our democracy was allowing a little kleptocracy, turns out the kleptocracts were allowing a little democracy.
