I'm a developer/designer/typographer. I have more than a passing interest in . Some would call it an obsession, but I don't.

@pixelambacht Would something like utopia.fyi/clamp/calculator work for line heights?

@mjtsai It’s bugs like these that made me abandon Mail, iTunes/Music, Safari, Books, and other Apple apps so far.

@ListenBrainz Wow. This is a version of what happened to me five years ago. iTunes mangled my carefully curated metadata and stripped all custom artwork. It took me seven weeks to extricate my library to FLAC files hosted in Plex, and over the next few years Jellyfin, and finally Navidrome. Picard has been a major part of this, and it also inspired me to make many contributions to MB. Thanks.

@eWalthert @fontspectrum This is embarrassing, but it seems I misremembered. You were also in those threads, but it was about the kerning of variable fonts not a VF axis. forum.affinity.serif.com/index and forum.affinity.serif.com/index

@eWalthert @fontspectrum When we reported the original issues with some axes, it took a few months (with example fonts supplied to them) to fix it, but it did get fixed in the end. I think the Affinity dev team is much smaller than we imagine, so things do tend to take some time especially when certain issues have higher priority.

@ronanmcd @eWalthert In the app you can link the Canva account to your Affinity account so that old purchases become available.

@RetypeFoundry I did a double-take when I saw this. It looks like it could be the brutalist cousin to my more rounded Art Disco font which started from a very similar place. barry.mieny.com/fonts/art-disc

@pixelambacht I’ve been scanning at 800 dpi, descreening with this plugin and then downsizing to 300 dpi with quite good results. If you have a photo with the screen in high enough resolution, it should work the same.

@pixelambacht I can highly recommend the Sattva Descreen plugin (descreen.net).

@kottke Hard to take it seriously when it starts off with: “We wore out the blockbusters—Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, E.T.—but those weren’t us. Those were boomer fantasies.”

@louie It seems the current implementation (xOS 26) is all over the place for the window chrome. On iPhone, it uses the theme-color whether in light or dark mode. On iPad, it uses it only in light mode. However, if there’s a manifest it seems to only work in dark mode. But, then it seems to behave correctly once you add it to the home screen as a web app in whichever mode. And judging from your initial post, the behaviour on the Mac is different, yet again. If no theme-color, I see your example.

@louie Does it also ignore the theme-color meta element (or similar value in the manifest)? I’ve been using that to get around Safari showing the blurred content in the window chrome up to now.

I’ve been working on a revival of Clearface by Morris Fuller Benton for a few months and recently found some better quality ATF specimen books scans.

My initial goal is to release it with the same glyph coverage as General Gothic, but my long term plan is to adapt it for use alongside the superior HEX Franklin by @nicksherman with matching metrics for a long-form, long-term book project I’m working on.

Its working title is Routine Roman, but we’ll see if that sticks.

@letterlibrary Looking at Kursachsen, it almost makes me think that Futura Display was an attempt at a hyper modern blackletter in answer to these more modern blackletters.

As an aside, I find the difference between the amount of instrumentation behind Marie and Per’s vocals quite interesting. In general, hers has very little while his is very busy. There’s also so much that we don’t hear when their vocals are there, and these versions are a great way to experience the music anew.

I love Roxette’s music, but wanted something less distracting for background music. I bought credits for a stem splitter and created instrumental versions of all their studio albums, but didn’t stop there and also created artwork to go along with each album. Because, of course, I have so much time on my hands. The result is this collection of their albums’ original artwork with Marie, Per and removed, leaving them all Sans Roxette. They're not perfect, but they're fine for this purpose.
