New font: Kermit!

We don’t release new fonts that often, and there is way too much to tell about Kermit, so we’ll just link to our blog. We’re super happy that this font exists and is now available to kids of all ages:

Kermit is a writable font, and includes time as a dimension in the font file. In case you want to experience these writable fonts yourself, visit the dedicated website: kermit-font.com (you can also read more about its background). Enjoy!

I just realized that it's April 23.

That means it's the anniversary of the Farmville, Virginia Motion High School student strike.

What? You don't know about that?

Well, in 1951, Barbara Johns was fed up with the deplorable conditions in her segregated school, so she organized a strike. She was inspired by labor strikes.

After she and her classmates turned the rural town of Farmville upside down, she called in the NAACP.

It’s #WilliamShakespeare’s birthday today, and to celebrate, I’d like to share my favourite #Shakespeare quote:

Screenshot of a notification from a ā€œShakespeare Quote of the Dayā€ app reading:

ā€œAn SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.ā€

Below that is a picture of William Shakespeare with that same error message quoted next to him, as if it were an actual Shakespeare quote.

after much research, I have discovered the only way to backup your messages on Signal for iOS is to add an editor from The Atlantic to all your conversations.

Visited my old friend, Atkinson Grimshaw, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He’s holding up pretty well I’d say.

I recently developed this jade glaze scheme, and think I have it where I want it. You can see it is rather nice when it has underlying grooves to emphasize :) #pottery #clay #ceramics #art #mastoart

I do not want your Gemini,
I do not want any AI.
I do not want it in my Chrome,
I do not want it in my home.
Not in my mail,
Even on sale,
Not in my app,
None of this crap.
I do not want it here or there,
I do not want it anywhere!

Holy shit.

Just wow, wow, holy shit:

Completely rewriting a multi-million line COBOL codebase that has life-or-death consequences for real people in the space of a few months, using gen AI?

I’ve been writing software for 40-some years, and I have to say: this may be, without exaggeration, the stupidest software-related idea I’ve ever heard from leadership.

I still remember this. One of the things that really challenged me, and my ideas about gender early on was Iggy Pop in a dress.

It wasn't so much him in the dress that did it, it was what he said about it.

I'm not ashamed to dress "like a woman" because I don't think it's shameful to be a woman.

Once I internalized that, I started recognizing it as a key to understanding bigotry.
