@historyofpunkrock As a kid I was mostly into metal. I couldn't put my finger on it then, but I grew tired of the long songs and complex musicianship in 90s metal.

Then Lemmy mentioned the Ramones on MTV. Rode my bike to the record store, bought Ramones' "All the stuff and more" unseen.

Inserted CD, pressed play. The songs *just started*. No build-up but immediate adrenaline. All posing removed. Weird, fast, simple. Abrupt stop, abrupt start. "I could do this!" Holy shit. This is *it*.

The rest of the world keeps moving towards , , , solutions, and especially alternatives to and and the rest.

This may not be new to many in the , but one of the last things I expected was a commitment to replace until I looked at , and it looks to be better in many ways. It may not have the worldwide coverage _yet_ but it's expanded beyond already.

A screenshot captures the 'street view' alternative offered by Panoramax in a western suburb of Paris, as-viewed through a mobile web browser. It shows the usual navigation and directional markers for forward, reverse, and turning to the left/right at street corners at center-screen, as well as 'play' controls to follow the route a pic at a time.

There are also highlighted orange rectangles showing every recognizable street and road sign within the 360-degree rotatable camera captured images. The highlighter can be disabled or enabled by the user by tapping the 'tag' icon next to the player controls.

Recent discussion about the perils of doors in gamedev reminded me of a bug caused by a door in a game you may have heard of called "Half Life 2". Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin.

Night Shift 🌙 for #windowfriday

This took me much longer to edit than I would care to admit - even if it is minimalistic. So, if you have any critiques on it, talk to me about it in a couple of months when I've recovered from the pain. 😂
It's not great, but it's something! You might have seen another photo of this building a few months ago when I photographed the reflections of clouds on its façade.
Oh, the person standing there had just put on their coat and I was very happy they were visible! ✨

Another new Let's Encrypt-secured website, another case of getting 82 hacking attempts in the first 30 seconds after it came online for the first time ever.

Do. Not. Kid. Yourself. "Oh, I'll delete the config files once I get it working." "Eh, I'm just some nobody. Who's going to care?" Yeah, I'll tell you who: people who watch for new sites come online and then immediately slam them with hacking probes.

"I'll get to it soon" means you better do it within 3 seconds.

Dethrone King Alcohol. World Temperance Sunday, October 28, 1951 [1951]
1 print : color ; sheet 58 x 43 cm (poster format) | Poster shows a man with crown "King" sitting on a throne perched on top of the world.

#DethroneKingAlcohol #RoySHollowman #Topeka #America #WorldTemperance #american #posters #photopgraphy #LibraryOfCongress

loc.gov/pictures/item/20146496

The image depicts a vibrant poster featuring bold typography and vivid colors, primarily red, blue, white, and shades of purple. At the top half of the poster is an illustration of a man sitting on a throne, brandishing a scepter with one hand while holding a cup labeled 'KING' in his other hand. He wears a crown emblazoned with 'KING,' holds money bags beneath him indicating wealth or power associated with alcohol consumption.

Below this figure rests upon the globe which is colored blue and white representing oceans, continents, and possibly seas of alcohol under its dominion according to textual interpretation.

The prominent message in large letters reads "Dethrone King Alcohol," suggesting a call for action against excessive drinking. Below it are further instructions on how to achieve temperance: 'World Temperance Sunday,' indicated by smaller text at the bottom stating dates from October 28, 1951 - up until another year not fully visible in this image.

The poster's edges display an orange background that frames and contrasts with its central theme. The lower portion of the graphic includes a banner-like design in blue which holds white lettering detailing who or what is promoting/producing the message: "KANSAS UNITED DRY FORCES Roy S. Hollowman, Sup't." Additionally listed are addresses including one at '102 Crawford Bldg., Topeka,' implying an organizational aspect behind this visual communication piece.
