Ok, a "yo mama" joke I can appreciate.
I only feel a little guilty posting this.

Trust, Who Do You?
STOP using corporate platforms! 🚨🛑
From demanding "real names", official IDs, and face scans destroying pseudonymity,
To carefully keeping track of everyone you interact with,
To tracking everything you do on the internet *outside* these platforms linking it back to your profile without your knowledge,
They will now utilize, process, tag, and judge everything you post to feed their AI models or sell it back to someone else's models.
It will only get *worse* from now.
You have no control whatsoever on what will be done with this AI-compiled profile of you later on.
The only solution to stay safe from their insatiable greed is to leave and delete,
before they eat you whole.

I think something AI techbros don’t realise is humans are human. Humans drink alcohol to forget the pain of life. They go the cinema to watch superhero movies to forget their mundane life.
Offering to recall everything through technology is not something people buy. People buy forgetting.

@berniework I will gladly throw money toward https://www.criterion.com/ (good, but limited, selection). Also https://store.oscilloscope.net/ I had this very same question recently while looking for a specific title and didn't find a good answer. I'll be curious to see if you get any other good answers.
@mackensen thanks for the suggestions.
@berniework Most of my blu-rays come direct from boutique sites like Vinegar Syndrome, Kino Lorber, Arrow, Grindhouse etc. I've also bought a fair number off eBay, which can be especially good for imports.
@0f4d0335 Yeah, may need to make a day of it.
@cR0w fewer and farther between these days. But thats a good reminder.
Hey #Fediverse,
I'm a US based consumer who still believes in buying physical media #DVD, #BluRay, etc. I'm trying to not reward a couple of huge companies with my purchasing business (one of which is named after a big river and used to just sell books in the "before times").
Any good recommendations for on-line (or even brick and mortar in the #Chicago suburbs) alternatives for selection, variety, and price?
It's kind of funny that the only real use cases I've had for AI are for generating crap to fill fake corporate websites I use for phishing. The amount of times I go "oh this is primarily useful for crime" is honestly kind of wild.
Dear computer, write me corporate jargon that would make the SEO gods happy. Now generate me some awful soulless clip art style flat art of someone doing work on a macbook.

These stories used to make me volcanically angry, but now they just make me profoundly sad. It's a failure on every axis.
Hey VDI vendors: Take note of this approach to preventing Recall from grabbing all those user sessions: https://signal.org/blog/signal-doesnt-recall/
@Sempf finally a lock I can successfully defeat in just a couple seconds!
(My lock picking skills are less than impressive)
Folks, there is 0 evidence that Steam passwords have been breached. Unless and until credible evidence occurs, please do NOT urge people to change their login credentials and please do NOT boost other people's toots doing the same. Creating unjustified anxiety about a non event does a disservice to us all.
Please boost for visibility.
Google quietly cut a key file access permission for Nextcloud’s Android app, breaking uploads for anything but media. The result: fewer features for a direct Drive competitor. Appeals were denied, while Google apps remain unaffected. Classic gatekeeping.

If you’re in the EU and you opted out of Meta training generative AI on your Facebook, Threads and Instagram posts and pictures, Meta are requiring you to opt out *again* or they will continue training on your data.
Users have until May 27 2025 to opt out again or forever lose the right. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/05/meta-is-making-users-who-opted-out-of-ai-training-opt-out-again-watchdog-says/
This is the random ass opt out URL, which isn’t advertised in their apps: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/6359191084165019

Q&A from a talk I gave last week.
Q: "What do you think is the biggest threat in cybersecurity right now? Is it post-quantum computing? Is it AI?"
A: Fascism. It's fascism.
