In 2020, a police officer killed a man who ran from a traffic stop, was charged with murder and fired. A judge issued a directed verdict clearing him of the charge. He then challenged his firing, got a cash settlement and was reinstated so he could resign rather than be fired. The city will also give neutral employment references.
