I wonder what the contemporary #movie theater's threat model is. Is it “I'll half-watch it on my phone" or “I like to experience movies in #UHD #HDR on my 85” #OLED screen and my 11.2.4 #Atmos sound rig”? I ask because the marketing team for “Project Hail Mary" (loved the book, can't wait to see the movie adaptation) seems to be banking on a "see it in theaters” campaign and is helpfully having its directors explain the half dozen+ theatrical standards we seem to have evolved into.

youtu.be/NLDida6fglw?si=AnFihY

So far in a 50-mile radius around me we have:

#IMAX (with or without #DBox)
EMX,
Super EMX
#ScreenX
Cinemark XD
“Encore - The big picture experience”
"Laser Ultra”
"Dolby Cinema @ AMC”

And an audio standard called "OVATION" (all caps) which, well:

“Driven by the industry standard of #Dolby Digital 7.1 audio compression technologies and #Trinnov Audio, a proven innovator of advanced 3D sound, #Ovation auditoriums utilize the latest in sound phase technology, allowing you to step into another reality of sound.”

Sound phase technology. Gotta have that.

Anyway looking forward to watching the movie, hoping to figure out the preferred immersive standard before March 20th 🤷‍♂️

Altman really is gonna go full Morpheus soon, huh? #GrownNotBorn #BTUsFeedRobots

Close-up of Morpheus's Construct avatar from the movie The Matrix. He is wearing mirrored sunglasses and holding up a Duracell C-cell battery in a demonstrative manner in order to explain that humans are not born, they are grown for use as an alternative power source for the Matrix.

@tbridge @caseyliss @ccgus The number of times I nearly impulse-bought the (previously B/W only) Mira Pro Display to use as a second monitor: less than half a dozen 😬

So do I have this right? "Still Alive" was meant to warn us about what happens when you toss the mock-sentient pattern matching AI machinery the keys and say, "Here, take it for a spin, let us know what you find out..."?

@zcutlip "Where is the code where is the code oh hey another email with a marginally interesting subject let me just check on that... <transporter noise>" I hate it so much.

Didn’t think that there’d be a contemporary internet argument about some #C64 #SID thing I wrote 35 years ago, but here we are csdb.dk/sid/?id=37733&show=com Bit-perfect chip tune or not? We must be certain! 🤪

Speaking of #NATO, yet entirely unrelated to the current derpfuffle, this is some cool news: ia.nato.int/niapc/Product/Indi #Apple #iOS #iPadOS officially approved for NATO use by the leute at #BSI 🤘

Nice, can confirm that github.com/Foxboron/attezt works to allow the foss version of Smallstep to issue TPM-backed certificates. Now I just need a PKCS#11 module which uh hrm

@nuthatch I've been pondering the same thing. A computer platform's demo scene is for sure art and I applaud any and all creative stunt-coding within those confines. If I just need some tool to do <<thing>> and I can describe it accurately enough for the thinking sand we specifically built to save time and reduce drudgery to build it for me, I am entirely fine with that too. I'll make some music while it works on the task for me, thanks 👍

@shayman I’ve been saying for years that having others tell your story is a dangerous and self-inflicted game of telephone, yet here we are 🤷‍♂️

It feels like this is a fairly direct metaphor about the average institutional #infosec approach in the year of our Lord 2026 🤔

Look at all these switches! Watch me flip them!

In an amusing twist, the artist is apparently a second cousin of my wife's and still alive and kicking living in Clearwater, FL: tbnweekly.com/clearwater_beaco According to her the statue forest in the front and backyards was a sight to behold even in the early 80s. Vivi a lungo e prospera, Dino!

Having a turntable in the office finally lets me get into family heirloom bangers like this again 🇮🇹
