@stux @EUCommission Like Adobe trying to retroactively stop me using CS6 despite swearing they'd 'always support it.' These companies are self entitled, psychopathic, megalomaniacs and should be avoided like the cancer they are.

FAST COMPANY

While retirement typically occurs, after
completing a career and saving and
investing for it, a new trend is emerging
among Gen Z career profe ionals
called "micro-retirement." Micro-
retirements involve taking a one to two-
week break from work every 12 to 18
months.
Gen Z is using micro-retirement to
avoid burnout, find greater fulfillment
in their work, and enhance their overall
well-being. However, it's not just Gen-Z:

@atomicpoet …so does this mean you *don’t* know how late the corner quickie mart in Fort Langley village is open ‘til?!

2025-07-07

@unattributed But, yes for PDFs it’s amazing. The emails conversion I mentioned, first formats the meta data into a beautiful header, then it cleans and formats the html and finally renders a perfect PDF that is then piped out to a markdown file for my notes! It’s brilliant!

2025-07-07

@unattributed Yeah, most of the younger folks I know that regularly use LaTeX are in academia. There are a few documentation sites out there; think legal docs, forms, etc., that use it on the backend to render finished pages. Again because of variables. So there are in fact a lot of people who are using it despite never having heard of it.

2025-07-07

@unattributed I do! Though it’s been a while since I have fired it up in earnest. I still use it for proposals, because *variables* beat ‘find and replace’ any day. Nothing worse than missing one instance because of a some small variation! Oh and I use it to convert my emails to markdown and place them in my CRM. Latex is super magic voodoo ninja stuff and everyone should use it! Especially if you are writing your maths dissertation!!

Great talk by @malteengeler & @tante bringing together both the dynamics and the ideology linking AI and fascism.

Also watch the Q&A for some thoughts on Luddism (not to be confused with techno-pessimism!) and anti-fascist strategies (unsurprisingly citing @danmcquillan). Great AI - asbestos analogy!

If you know anyone in the European Union who is seriously considering buying Meta's spyglasses, please remind them that using those privacy nightmares would make them a controller according to the GDPR. They'd be responsible for ensuring full compliance with our privacy laws, which - surprise, surprise - will be impossible.

Please tell them to save themselves and everyone around them the trouble and give the money to any NGO instead.

@interesting but it’s not too late. Fight *now* while you can. Get involved, vote with your ballad and your money. Let your congress reps know that they are on the wrong side of history. If you wait until they come for you and the people you love, you’ll have waited too long.
