🚨 Disability rights are under attack in 17 states! 🚨

There’s a lawsuit trying to get rid of Section 504, the law that protects disabled people in schools, workplaces, and public spaces. If they succeed, it means:

❌ Schools wouldn’t have to provide accommodations (no extra test time for ADHD, no wheelchair access, no diabetes care in class).
❌ Workplaces wouldn’t have to adjust for disabilities (no remote work, no flexible scheduling, no accessibility requirements).
❌ Public spaces could ignore accessibility needs (buildings, buses, and services wouldn’t have to be usable for disabled people).

📍 These 17 states are trying to gut 504 protections:
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia.

If you live in one of these states, contact your state reps & governor! If this lawsuit succeeds, other states could follow, or it could reach the Supreme Court and hurt everyone.

@jbowles Yeah, it’s frustrating. I hope to connect with the right mentor soon. Thanks for the support!

Hey @rye

I’d really appreciate that! I’m looking for a mentor with experience in running a cybersecurity business or deep knowledge of web app security and pentesting. If that’s within your expertise, I’d love to chat! If not, I’d definitely appreciate any introductions to folks who might be a good fit. Thanks so much!

@DjityDjity Without DEI, we end up with less qualified people getting in by default just because of who they are. DEI isn’t about lowering standards—it’s about ensuring the bar actually exists for everyone.

What’s worse is that these restrictions are spilling over into independent programs meant to uplift minorities, making it even harder for underrepresented folks to access mentorship and opportunities. If it weren’t for these programs, I wouldn’t have even considered working in tech because of the barriers that exist.

People say #ADHD is a superpower, but let’s be real, it’s a weird mix of challenges and accidental perks. It’s not some quirky gift, but sometimes the worst symptoms end up working in my favor:

🔹 ADHD Perseveration/Hyperfocus → Makes it hard to switch tasks, but also makes me hyper-persistent on things I actually care about like #cybersecurity, web dev, or learning new skills, but not so much when it’s Wikipedia rabbit holes at 3AM.

🔹 ADHD Forgetfulness → I’ll abandon a project, forget why I gave up, and end up trying again—sometimes that’s all progress really is.

🔹 ADHD Impulsivity & High-Risk Tolerance → Yeah, it gets me into trouble, but also makes me willing to take big leaps, which is great for starting a business, learning tech, and cybersec (where thinking like an attacker is key).

ADHD isn’t my superpower, but it’s also not all bad. The trick is figuring out how to harness the good while minimizing the chaos.

I lost my #cybersecurity mentor, who's a fed employee, due to fed restrictions on DEI—despite this being an independent #WomenInCyber program. I'm starting a web dev & security business, & seeking a mentor with cybersec biz experience or deep web app sec & pentesting knowledge.

I posted this on Tanya Janca's @SheHacksPurple post on Bluesky, but I'm sharing this here as well. #CyberMentoringMonday

Lost my cybersec mentor because they're a fed employee & unable to participate in "DEI efforts"—despite this being through an independent #WomenInCyber program, not the government. Cutting off mentorship like this makes it harder for people trying to break in. #Cybersecurity #MentorshipMatters #DEI

Just spun up Radicale to self-host my calendar & task list this morning because my BuJo couldn't keep up with the chaos of GTD projects. Turns out, my brain needs automation, sync, and a search function more than fancy washi tape. #SelfHosting #GTD #Radicale

Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s survival. The world is exhausting, and burnout helps no one. Rest, eat, find small joys. Taking care of yourself now means having the energy to handle what comes next. What are you doing to take care of yourself right now? #SelfCareMatters

One of the best perks of having a SysAdmin dad? 👨‍💻 Suggesting we boost the family’s security with an end-to-end encryption app 🔒 and getting a "Great idea!" instead of blank stares. Now to recruit him for the real battle: converting the rest of the family.

Mission Impossible:

Convincing my entire family to ditch their sketchy messaging apps and switch to Signal. Will I succeed? Or will I be met with 'But Facebook Messenger is fine!'?

Stay tuned.

Had a fantastic coffee chat with Heikki M. this morning! ☕️ I really appreciate all the advice he shared about building a professional network and getting started on my journey to building my own pentesting business. It was also inspiring to hear about his path into cybersecurity and his work in social engineering. Thank you, Heikki, for the insights and encouragement! 🌟 Looking forward to applying what I've learned and taking the next steps in my career.

Attending the workshop on web app pentesting led by Alex Olsen from TCM Security was truly insightful. Hosted by OWASP Seattle Chapter and Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS)- Western Washington, the event provided valuable insights for aspiring pentesters like me. Alex's slide on the pentesting roadmap concerned me, though, as I seem to be going backwards on it. #CyberSecurity #Pentesting #OWASP #WiCyS #Tech #WebAppSec #InfoSec

The image is titled "WebApp Pentesting" and provides steps on "How to Start your WebApp Pentest Career." It includes:

    Day 1:
Sign up to TryHackMe & follow the Web Fundamentals path.
Sign up to TCM & follow the Practical Bug Bounty course.
    2 weeks later:
Sign up to PortSwigger & work through the practitioner content.
    1 month later:
        Start participating in CTFs.
Supplement your learning by exploring webapps & AppSec.
        Consider an entry-level certification.

There is a calendar icon with the number "1" and a small image of a person in the bottom right corner, labeled "TCM Security."

I wrote an article about SMART goals and how they might not work for everyone. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. While this approach is popular, it often fails to explain how to achieve our goals.

A goal like "I want to finish an online course on JavaScript programming within the next 2 months to improve my coding skills and create simple applications on my own" meets the SMART criteria, but doesn't explain how to achieve it.

That's where behavior-centric SMART goals come in. These type of SMART goals help make goals more achievable by focusing on specific actions. Instead of a vague goal, set a goal like "Study JavaScript for 15 minutes daily" - it's specific, achievable, and based on actions you can control.

I've explored this idea in detail in my latest article. Check it out and let me know what you think! 🚀

One of the things I want out of my work is to help other people. I've been throwing things out to the universe for quite a while now despite not knowing if it would matter. Finding out what I've done actually helped someone is the best feeling ever.

I've been doing some ChatGPT prompt engineering today, and I was able to create a prompt that gets ChatGPT to write ChatGPT prompts.

"You are a ChatGPT prompt engineer who specializes in crafting input prompts that guide ChatGPT's response in a specific way. Craft me 10 ChatGPT prompts that are clear, specific, and leads to a well-defined goal or output. Generate prompts that encourage ChatGPT to [what you want the prompt to do]."

For example, "...Generate prompts that encourage ChatGPT to create Mastodon posts on various topics."

And one of the prompts I was given in response:

"Create a Mastodon post that provides actionable tips for networking and building professional relationships in the digital age."

And the post it generated for me was generic LinkedIn shit. But the prompt works!

Today, I helped thwart a simulated cyberattack by identifying and reporting a phishing scam. To strengthen our defenses, I conducted a phishing exercise to pinpoint vulnerabilities, then developed a training course to target the most susceptible teams.

Diving deep into coding projects all weekend seemed like a great idea at the time. Now, I'm paying the price with a serious case of 'code hangover.' Is there a debugging tool for exhaustion? #codinglife
