Here's my writeup for #AdventOfCode day 4: https://advent-of-code.xavd.id/writeups/2024/day/4/
My existing `neighbors` helper came in clutch today! Really shows the value in a good helper function.
Radical #Leftist, #Hippie, #AntiCapitalist, #SolarPunk and happy parent of a couple of wild children.
Avid #Reader of anything weird and fun, with a slight lean towards #SciFi and #Fantasy #Books. #Neurodivergent several different ways. I'm not too bad at pool (#Billiards) and #Bowling, but haven't had time to enjoy either in several years.
As for work, I'm a computer generalist -- equal parts #Sysadmin, #NetworkAdmin, #CyberSecurity and #NetworkSecurity engineer and a dabbling novice #Coder. Have been working as a senior engineer at a small #MSP for several years, necessitating the wearing of many hats.

@jsmall that like a 1 in a million chance!
@Remittancegirl @hannu_ikonen ok, I think I misinterpreted that🤣
@Remittancegirl @hannu_ikonen wait, I get why we blame Clinton, but are we blaming Obama for being black?!?
@CrebboElodie it makes sense when you realize English is really three languages in a trench coat pretending to be one language. Bits of German, Latin, and Greek all mixed together to make up most of the words and rules with a bunch of bonus loan-words from other languages. And the rules are pretty loosey-goosey. So cactus (Latin) can be pluralized with an -i ending as cacti, but not octopus (Greek), but we still do it anyway sometimes and say octopi. And it is also still acceptable to pluralize them both with default English pluralization (cactuses and octopuses).
Some thoughts on being embarrassed.
@arielkroon @RyanChartier the thing I like most about these #jekyll and similar #staticsite generators is that they tend to produce beautiful results. I love your site design/layout!
Finally finished switching my blog to #jekyll, which is super light, #EnergyEfficient (and thus more #EnvironmentallyFriendly), and lets me get into the back-end nitty-gritties armed only with a vague notion of #HTML coding from teenage years spent on #LiveJournal. Major props to @RyanChartier for enabling me; if you ask him very nicely, he might help you make a simple, lean #webpage, too. (seriously, give him a shout if you're interested)
@RyeNCode make sure the solar quote includes a whole-house battery. Most power grids require the system to shut off your solar generation if the power goes out, so you aren't energizing the grid while workers are trying to repair it. A battery in between the grid and your solar allows your solar to keep operating when the grid is down.
@outofcontrol ugh. My fedi pet peeve is when users think they're being clever by using alternate words instead of the politicians' actual names that we may have blocked like "tfg" or "orange man", or words like 'nem', 'unalived', etc.
I get that we used those terms on other platforms to circumvent automated algorithms, but you're just being a bad community member when you do it to circumvent actual people's manually-defined filters.
…and a new round of unfollowing people who never use tags for certain stressful topics (politics anyone?) :(
My blocking does try to block on sensitive words too, but people don’t always use the trigger words in their posts.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Every time policymakers or private companies tried to undermine your rights online during the last Trump administration, we were there. In preparation for the next four years, here’s just some of the groundwork we’ve already laid: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/11/2024-us-election-over-eff-ready-whats-next
Play a #game and learn #Rust https://oort.rs/ I have not dared to try this beyond some initial levels.
@edwardk I feel anti-virus companies share at least part of the blame here. They've been flagging our software cracks and key gens as infected for decades. They've trained us to ignore and bypass those warnings even when they do detect something. 💩
