A beautiful few days hiking in Southern Utah.

A slot canyon along Willis Creek in Southern Utah. A blue sky is visible through a narrow gap above the walls of the canyon. The walls are approximately 20 feet high with each sedimentary layer being visible. There is a small stream running through a pebble filled bed. A view of the hoo doos in Bryce Canyon. The repeating red walls reach up with their white colored tops stretching into what looks like tenuous columns. In the distance, green trees are mixed between the walls. The sky above is grey with clouds.

The Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition is coming round again and the shortlist is stunning.

See the whole shortlist here: rmg.co.uk/whats-on/astronomy-p and there will be an exhibition of all of them at Royal Museums Greenwich after the winner is announced.

Today I learned that NASA has a collection of free ebooks that can be downloaded as pdfs or ebub format.

The science books even include a children’s section with fun activites and coloring books!

Once again, I thought I bought enough bags of candy for Halloween.

I thought 20 bags would be enough and I thought it was a slow night, but I ran out of candy with 45 minutes still to go.

So many great costumes by the kids and such excitement in the neighborhood!

A wooded path with the sun shining through the branches is the green trees. There is a mix of green grass and fallen leaves on the ground. The sun shimmers off some tall grass mixed into the hill and trees.

A single black dog happily trots down the path about 10 meters away.

Just an owl hanging out in Baltimore on a Saturday night

An owl sitting on a branch with many other branches around it. It is grey with brown stripes. Jupiter can be seen behind it in the blue grey sky.
