Space Weather
Active regions 4294 and AR4299 continue to be active. Between them there have been five flares >M1 in the last 24 hours, with the largest being an M3.1 at 21h19 UT 08 Dec. An eruption between 00h45 and 02h UT caused type II and type IV radio emissions, indicating further CMEs.
We currently have four or five CMEs inbound, some of which are poorly defined and difficult to spot due the the amount of activity. The main CME from the M8.1 flare on 06 Dec is still expected to hit Earth in the coming hours, although it appears to be later than forecast. This is not unusual due to the poor coverage provided by our space assets.
A G3 level geomagnetic storm is expected today, with a slight possibility of G4 for a brief period.
NOAA is forecasting G1 conditions for 10 Dec, but Dr Tamitha Skov's assessment suggests G2 level conditions for 10 & 11 Dec due to the additional CMEs following the main one.
