The German Cyclists’ Association (ADFC) has published its latest city Index, once again confirming that Germany remains a developing country when it comes to cycling infrastructure. Most cities scored around 4 out of 5 (1 = excellent, 5 = dreadful).

Even Münster – often praised as a cycling role model – only managed a 3. Meanwhile, Bochum, a city near where I live, was celebrated in the news for its “strong improvement”… only to now rank just as bad as the rest of the region. (1/2)

#Interrail day 5/7: barely started in #NeustadtWstr I noticed a mail from #SNCF that my #ICE from #Strasbourg to #Paris was canceled so I would miss my #eurostar to #London 🫩
But as I’m still testdriving I accepted the challenge. SNCF in Strasbourg changed my reservation to a #TGV two hours later, and in Paris I was simply shifted to the next leaving Eurostar, as easy as that 😳 (double-check class!)
From London I took a reservation-free #EMR to #Nottingham and then my #brompton to the hotel 😊

I boarded on the ICE train from Dresden to Frankfurt/Main. This train has places dedicated to bikes 🤩

Pourquoi certaines idées d’aménagement, pourtant pleines de bon sens, restent-elles inapplicables ? Coût, complexité, arbitrages : la réalité les rattrape vite.

TIL that SNCF has a (short) _maximum_ connecting time for through-tickets.

So they will sell a trip of two TGV’s through e.g. Paris with passenger rights only if it follows 1) minimum time but also 2) no longer than a _maximum_ time.

Seems that this max time is something like 90 minutes. If a trip is possible that results in a transfer over this limit, SNCF Connect won’t show it, even if it is the fastest trip given a certain departure time.

Si le ciel n'est pas aussi bleu qu'il devrait l'être aujourd'hui en France, il y a une raison : des incendies au Canada dégagent des fumées importantes qui ont traversé l'Atlantique et se retrouvent en France.

C'est visible un peu partout, de la Haute-Savoie à un petit village de Provence où je me trouve actuellement. Le graphique ci-dessous sur Météo-Paris montre bien le phénomène.

Last day of the trip today, leaving through the marvellous bicycle-friendly station in Nantes. This morning, I do not even need the ramps: there is no obstacle of any kind between the garage of my hotel and the inside of this modern Intercités to Lyon. This will be a long ride, over six hours, longer than the TGV service which also exists, and it will take me through parts of France I have not visited yet.

Just an (unsponsored) recommendation for the nice and extremely friendly hotel "Demain" in Nantes - a perfect place for me, without any of the nonsense in the big chain hotels.
