Looking for examples: do you know any open source projects that have updated their contribution process to handle AI-assisted PRs thoughtfully?

Specifically interested in:
* PR templates that ask for intent/reasoning
* Policies around comprehension checks
* Other methods for adding more friction to creating a PR

Would love to learn from communities already experimenting here

In Ecuador’s Pastaza province, the Kichwa community of Pakayaku has kept 400 km² of Amazon rainforest free from mining, oil and logging through a self-organised guardian force. 45 women patrol the territory, enforcing ancestral laws and mapping sustainable livelihoods in a “plan of life.” Their vigilance has preserved both forest ecosystems and cultural autonomy amid growing national extractive pressures. news.mongabay.com/2025/10/indi

🔗 The Authoritarian Stack

In this OSINT project, Francesca Bria and José Bautista map the network of private platforms supporting authoritarianism in the U.S. and Europe.

Unlike old authoritarianism built on fear and force, this new system rules through code, capital, and infrastructure — making resistance feel architecturally impossible. …

Each layer reinforces the others. Ideology justifies investment. Investment captures state power. State power secures contracts. Contracts build infrastructure. Infrastructure becomes indispensable. Indispensability generates returns. Returns fund more ideology.

@cwebber's keynote wraps up this workshop I am organizing in Amsterdam on Nov 26-27:

nias.knaw.nl/events/code-as-cr

The workshop brings together practitioner-researchers working on #permacomputing, #ServerCollectives, and #NetworksOfConsent to learn from one another and reflect on transformations of technical practice.

There are still a few spots available. Contact me if you'd like an invitation.

🔗 Ghost Workers in the AI Machine

This report by Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 9009 draws on a survey and in-depth interviews to shed light on the working conditions of North American data workers:

Despite being touted as the definitive technological breakthrough of this century, the conditions under which AI models and tools are produced by data workers, in a highly opaque and fissured global supply chain, are still underexplored. Studies of data workers in the Global South have begun to fill gaps in knowledge about the low-paid outsourced labor behind AI, but less is known about U.S. data workers’ conditions.

The report concludes with a discussion of how workers can build collective power, and how policymakers can take worker perspectives seriously as they address data workers’ labor conditions.

Very pleased to have been a part of this project - a great collaboration.

My contribution, an article, was specifically on helping chart a pathway for climate-facing organisations to shift from big tech platforms to self-hosted and sovereign infrastructure.

You can download the book free, or pre-order in print.

We have a postdoc vacancy with the algosoc project situated in our programmable infrastructures team at TU Delft (the Netherlands).

The post focuses on the following: How do computational infrastructures (clouds + end devices) expand into sectoral/public organizations? Are current (digital) policies adequate in responding to their impact on administration of justice?
