Signal Messenger is warning that Recall, the AI tool rolling out in Windows 11 that will screenshot, index, and store everything a user does every three seconds, poses a risk to its users. Effective immediately, the Windows Desktop version will by default block the ability of Windows to screenshot the app. Of course, Microsoft provides no API to disable Recall from screenshotting specific apps, so Signal is getting creative. They are invoking a digital rights management API that blocks the screenshotting of copyrighted material.

@Em0nM4stodon Yeah, I fully agree.

And I think it can be generalised even further. We have a _respect problem_. There is such a widespread lack of respect for human beings (and other beings) in general. They are considered simply as a means to an end, a resource to extract.

To really make progress on the _data privacy problem_, we need to go right to the core of our personal and societal values and reshape how we view and interact with the world.

This colorful network of faint gas filaments is part of the Vela Supernova Remnant, an expanding nebula composed of debris left over from a massive star that exploded about 11,000 years ago. Captured by the Dark Energy Camera (DECam), the striking red, yellow, and blue colors in this image were.....

A Pixel Art featuring some anthropomorphic, chibi characters on a tiny beach island. One of them is tanning on a chair, the other is staring from a building towards the ocean, being protected from the sun due to a homemade "roof", and another is on the water, with what seems like a shark behind them.

The title "break day" is a subtle reference to how tomorrow there won't be new art by me.

Ocean Breeze

This serene beach scene captures Holly Beach, Louisiana, nestled along the Gulf of Mexico. I last visited a couple of years ago, and the thought of returning has been on my mind ever since. Scattered along the shore are various gulls and terns, accompanied by lively sanderlings darting between the waves. While these birds add movement and charm to the scene, my true focus was the vast, rolling expanse of the gulf—an ever-changing, mesmerizing backdrop.

"Imagine standing on a peaceful beach, where the soft, light-colored sand stretches before you, touched by the gentle embrace of small rolling waves. The sky is brilliantly clear, casting an open, welcoming expanse above. Along the shore, seagulls gather—a mixture of restless motion and quiet observation. Some glide gracefully overhead, their wings slicing through the air as they ride the ocean breeze. Others remain on the sand, their slender legs carrying them in short bursts of movement as they search for morsels. The scene is filled with the sound of the waves mingling with the birds’ calls, creating a soothing coastal harmony. The untouched beauty of nature unfolds effortlessly, inviting reflection and calm." - Copilot

We just arrived this week at our current basecamp in Mars Hill, North Carolina to a rare phenomenon, as the once-every-17 year cicadas are in full swing. This is Brood XIV, now active across North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and western Virginia. youtube.com/shorts/lVtN6GGw60w

To me, it sounds very eerie, like a constant old-school Star Trek phaser. Why every 17 years? One idea is that the ‘molecular clock’ of the cicadas know when tree sap they feed on is at its prime for them to emerge… or maybe they just like prime numbers.

New, from me: Pakistani Firm Shipped Fentanyl Analogs, Scams to US

A Texas firm recently charged with conspiring to distribute synthetic opioids in the United States is at the center of a vast network of companies in the U.S. and Pakistan whose employees are accused of using online ads to scam westerners seeking help with trademarks, book writing, mobile app development and logo designs, a new investigation reveals.

This story was quite a lot of work, and I really hope some good can come of it. The scale of this operation is something to behold:

The latter two firms are connected to a vast network of sites selling ghostwriting, wikipedia editing, logo and website design services which have strong connections to entities and individuals in Pakistan that have been ripping people off.

Really struggling to be on Mastodon because everyone I follow is (very lovely and brilliant) very right on, very left wing, and very morally outraged. Obviously with very good cause, but I really miss the silliness of old school twitter when it wasn't just an echo chamber of doom every time I logged on. Who can I follow that just toots memes and daft shit to make me smile? Or has a lovely account that isn't frequently tweeting politics? Would love recommendations to try balance my feed out ❤️
