Maybe Biden should:

1) Counsel panicking Democrats to calm down; campaign like crazy; poke fun at himself for his stumbling performance; and hold frequent press conferences/interviews to show he's all there.

or:

2) Withdraw.

Pretending it didn't happen isn't going to work.

@dangillmor Essential guidance for everyone about /all/ of their data, no matter who else has a copy.

(And 'a' backup actually should be 3 different ones, using different media and different software in different places. An early Internet sage even advised different continental shelves...)

Anyone who creates media that third parties publish should always, always make a back-up of what appeared online.

I learned this the hard way when a former employer disappeared years worth of my blog from a major news organization's website.

It still sucks when companies take down archives, as Paramount has done with MTV News, but at least there's the possibility of resurrecting some of it if individuals save it.

When I was a mere clerk for the 1st circuit appeals court, I wasn't allowed to have a political bumper sticker for fear of creating even the appearance of bias on the court.

How can Justice Alito be allowed to rule on Jan 6-related matters after flying a pro-insurrection flag?

@StephenRamirez@universeodon.com Wanting to get these people out of the GOP misses the point. That party has worked diligently to get to where that party is, for more than 40 years.

A "Stop the Steal" flag reportedly flew at the home of Justice Samuel Alito, just days after Jan 6.

Alito not being forced to recuse from Trump's immunity case and upcoming Jan 6 cases tells you everything you need to know about the new SCOTUS code of "ethics."

It's a sham.

Such moral cowards running New York University -- ordering student protestors to write phony apologies.

This is right out of the authoritarian playbook -- and it craps on every notion of freedom of expression.

nytimes.com/2024/05/17/nyregio

You don't have to agree with the protestors' politics. But you should damn well understand that America is in wave of McCarthyism right now.

@SteveBellovin So that's his excuse. And it's a good one. My question, then is what is the excuse of/for the people who support him?

@SteveBellovin @nowster @peterhoneyman It was fairly recent years before I realized how little RFC822 changed, over RFC733. Obvious addition of domain names. Some removals of unused features. Maybe one or two actual enhancements. But overall it was, therefore, one of the better examples of community self-discipline in evolving a specification.

(While I drove the effort, it really was a classic community process, in the style we are used to.)

@nowster @SteveBellovin @peterhoneyman As I recall, they all qualified as valid RFC 733 (and then RFC 822) addresses. That is, the non- Arpanet/Internet addresses fit into the mailbox string, to the left of the at-sign.

@SteveBellovin @peterhoneyman For a while there were lots of hybrid addresses which were part RFC, part bang path, source routing, and occasionally the big endian UK academic addresses.
