The @devuan Linux distribution has released its version 6, "Excalibur" version!
devuan.org/os/announce/excalib

Devuan is essentially @debian but mainly with the horrible SystemD mistake reverted, and is the distribution I would primarily recommend to people who are capable of and don't mind a bit of extra manual fiddling around primarily when installing third party softwares as those often nowadays only include instructions and templates for SystemD (which is part of the extremely many issues with SystemD, assimilating, wrecking, extinguishing, making itself a dependency for, complicating and making debugging very much more difficult of everything else).
Devuan 6, "Excalibur", is based on the current version of Debian which is 13, "Trixie".

Would you drink the systemd juice?

if the problems with systemd were just about init system / service management, we wouldn't actually have any problems

but sure, complain about people complaining, without knowing what it's even about

@phf @devuan unsurprisingly in Devuan, as with your init system, you get to choose your DNS resolver.
I use dnscrypt-proxy, and my immutable resolv.conf points to that but every Devuan user gets to choose their own solution.
I did have Avahi installed but have yet to identify anything useful provided by it.

2025-04-01

@phf
Nothing, just nameserver entries into /etc/resolv.conf - or unbound if you really need fancier things like dnssec, etc.

Debian will remove systemd-resolved 😅 but then will force everyone to use another mess: avahi 🤣🤌🏽

Obviously, they also mention burnout.

* Drop systemd-resolved package. The ctte has declared that the way the systemd-resolved tool works is incompatible with their decision to prioritize avahi in Debian. Furthermore, the resolved tool is being used to inflict pain on the maintainer, and induce burnout. Regrettably, the only safe solution to ensure this package is compliant with this decision is to drop it, as all reasonable alternatives put forward have been rejected: https://salsa.debian.org/systemd-team/systemd/-/merge_requests/289

@http @Cookiemonster @devuan

the reboot is not needed.
you can probably just run "spnavd_ctl x11 start" inside your current X-session to give spacenavd access to your X-session. Or just symlink the .Xauthority file and restart spacenavd. No need to log out even.

For just FreeCAD you don't even need to do that, since it can use the socket in /run. Just checkmark "support legacy space mouse" in preferences->Display->Navigation and it will work without reboot.

Getting a SpaceMouse to work in #FreeCAD on @devuan

1. Install spacenavd
2. reboot
3. run FreeCAD
