@vga256 “Aqua” is a pretty good descriptor, IMO.
Software since 1998. Ex-Apple. I smushed AppKit and UIKit together and never looked back.
Black lives matter. LGBT+ rights are human rights. Healthcare, security, a decent income, and housing with dignity are human rights. Abortion is healthcare. Science is our best hope as a species. Kindness and empathy are the noblest of human traits.
I block assholes and bigots.

The Holocaust did not begin with killing; it began with words.
Genocides do not start with mass murder. That's where they end up.
Genocides & other mass atrocity crimes begin with words - specifically, with powerful people dehumanizing a minority.
Once they are seen as less than human, anything is possible, even mass murder.
👉 You can speak out loudly today for the rights of others, or you can stay silent & wait for tomorrow, when your rights will be taken away too.
I got a beta invite to #Post, and had to at least see what it's like in there, and, well, it just feels stark and dystopian, like crypto and twitter had a love child.
The whole thing seems to be designed around building an economy for information, not a public square. Gave me the heebie-jeebies

Reboosting for #NewHere
TIP OF THE DAY
Use and Follow #hashtags !!!
Mastodon has #NoAds, #500Chars, #5Pins, and #PostEdits, but the best thing is #NoAlgorithm. On the #BirdSite you are force-fed by an #algorithm. A mishmash of your history, likes, follows and whatever Twitter wants to cram into you. With #NoAlgorithm, you are in control. Your feeds are just who and what you follow, and you can follow #hashtags .
Include #hashtags liberally so others can follow your ideas.
My team at work just launched new research on the #TwitterMigration: We analyze which platforms are growing - especially #Mastodon, #Tumblr & #Post.
We look at which sites users are adding to their Twitter bios, posting to their friends about & downloading apps for.
Please do boost this, and love to hear any comments or feedback on it!

Trains once staffed with five workers are now staffed by two. Conductors and engineers can be on call for 14 consecutive days and do not receive a single sick day. Once again, workers deemed essential are treated like anything but by uber-profitable corporations—and now Congress.
It’s the filibuster or paid sick leave for railway workers.
The filibuster or the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
The filibuster or a federal living wage.
The filibuster or abortion rights.
The filibuster or democracy.
This should not be a hard choice.
@jdrama418 I’m really bummed out to hear that. I hold some optimism that as more non-white+tech type people join the Fediverse, pockets of it will become more welcoming, and the welcome will spread to more places.
A few days ago, I asked a self-identified leftist why they're still on Twitter.
Their response: "I shouldn't have to leave Twitter, Elon Musk should!"
🙄
That's not how it works.
Elon Musk literally owns Twitter now. It's completely in his private hands. Twitter isn't even trading on the stock market anymore.
Twitter's data centers hosting all your tweets? Elon Musk physically owns them now.
Everything you put on Twitter now -- Elon Musk owns it!
@donniecash818 @atomicpoet frankly, "staying to fight" isn't even a concept that exists. Everyone thinks they have a choice over whether to stay and keep Twitter going or not, but they don't. Every week more and more cracks show in twitter's infrastructure. Parts of the site are already dying and it's only a matter of time before a catastrophic failure happens, and Twitter has fired everyone who knew how to fix it. When it truly goes down, it's not coming back up.
Everyone thinks the future of Twitter is a social issue. Users who hate it, users who love it, Musk himself, everyone thinks they can will it to be what they expect. But at this point, the hardware and software of the site are in control, and once those fail, it's game over. So I find all of the arguments about whether we're supposed to "stay and fight" or leave kind of pointless, leaving isn't optional and now the site's infrastructure gets to decide when it happens, nobody else.
NEW: @eff @team dozens of global human rights groups have signed on to #ProtectTheStack, urging infrastructure level entities like payment processors, app stores, ISPs, and CDNs to uphold free expression and avoid content specific censorship https://protectthestack.org
