The "you" to whom he's speaking — his base — are the ones for whom that's news, and as long as he centers them, they will champion him.

There's no reality in which the Dem's so-called mistakes should ever outweigh the mess that is Trump, the current Republican Party, MAGA, and Project 2025.

=> Biden helped negotiate a favorable labor contract for railroad workers.
=> All the labor people here were *very* pro Harris.

Yeah, Biden/Harris were so out of touch they wasted their time doing things like:
=> Unions are the strongest they've been in decades.
=> Wages among the lowest earners grew the fastest.
=> The child tax credit was expanded.
=> A minimum corporate tax was enacted.
=> A tax on stock buybacks was added.
=> Passed the CHIPS Act.
=> High inflation was brought down to normal levels without a recession.
=> Millions of jobs were created.

Shirley Chisholm was made a footnote so that white fragility did not have to face its embrace of white supremacy.
And, "about the Vietnam War"? Kent State had already happened. Anti-war sentiment was at fever pitch. Yet, Nixon wanted to escalate. And THAT earned him the largest landslide in American history? That many people wanted more Vietnam? It never made sense to me UNTIL I uncovered the footnote of Chisholm's story. THEN it all made sense.
I was not old enough to have understood at the time.
Go back far enough, and none of us were for anything. But we still have education. We can still read.
I accept that you can remember '72, and that you remember it differently. That's fine. I'm only offering a different perspective that resonates with a bigger picture, for your consideration and that of your readers.
Again, McGovern's ineptitude is a convenient diversion. It was about racism and sexism.
Nixon had a Southern Strategy for the express purpose of attracting racist White people tired of seeing THEIR Democrat party advance Civil Rights.
McGovern was road kill, trampled under the stampede of racists feet wooed by Nixon's pandering rhetoric.
Rooting out racism and patriarchy is made more difficult by hiding them behind convenient diversions.
Trim branches? Time to get to the root.
