@br00t4c That's one "problem" I'd love to have.

If anyone out there has won more money than you'll ever need and want to alleviate your guilt, I'd be happy to take some of that burden off your shoulders. And I don't need much — if you wouldn't miss $1 million, let's talk!

@Osteopenia_Powers @jeffjarvis

Yeah, we agree, he is an idiot. It's just, he's an idiot smart enough to get elected president twice.

That makes him a dangerous idiot. And that's my frustration — his antics fool us into thinking he's not as slick as he is, and while we're laughing at him, he's getting away with utterly unbelievable shit.

Yes, I'm preaching to the choir. WE get it — but his minions incapable of grasping the scope of his threat, and have positioned him to do existential damage.

Trump knows there are "a lot of countries."

The "you" to whom he's speaking — his base — are the ones for whom that's news, and as long as he centers them, they will champion him.

I hear you :-)

My particular angle of contribution is to connect the larger-scale events that are explicitly political-process driven.

It is the #enfranchisement/ #disenfranchisement template that makes sense of #gerrymandering, #VoterSuppression, #3/5thsCompromise, #ElectoralCollege, #CivilWar, #JimCrow, #jan6th

It is a thick band of threads running throughout the fabric of #AmericanHistory

Thank you for this article link!

Someone had posted a challenge to "pick a massacre", and I went through all of the ones they listed in a series - Ocoee is on slide 11/21 in that series —mstdn.party/@duaneaubin/110039

The article to which you linked provides living depth.

My series stepped back to set it within a broader context, a continuum that kinda starts at the #CivilWar and connects directly to #Jan6th.

Here's a quote reflecting the very same sentiment: "You are choosing to frame this moment in a way that deflects from the root of the issue."

The article is entitled "It's the racism, stupid", by Jeff Jarvis. medium.com/whither-news/its-th

We need more people to CHOOSE RATHER to stay focused on the root of the issue; to CHOOSE NOT to acquiesce to amplifying convenient deflective framings.

My new post: Do not listen to pundits' pat explanations or to polls that veil the truth. Do not listen to me. Listen to those who experience the nation as it is.

Looks like the majority of you didn’t vote for Harris with malice and intention, just so you could hop on the internet, jump on the “demean a Black woman” bandwagon, and scream about “what Kamala did wrong” with impunity for your thinly veiled racism.

We know.

First of all, THANK YOU.

We may not all always agree, but public discourse demands we deport ourselves to civility, and I appreciate that we could have gotten this far coming from opposing sides of this particular matter.

As for "should", agree. Driving change demands we be deliberate.

Throw less energy into amplifying victim-blaming rhetoric, and counterbalance with broader perspective.

They want us to keep missing it, distracted by shiny baubles. That's how it perpetuates.

If Joe wants to mess up Trump’s inauguration he should quit the day before and make Kamala president for 24 hours. All those made in China “45 & 47” hats will be useless.

Fair enough.

All I'm trying to point out is, if Trump can be a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, casino-bankrupting elite who doesn't know how to close an umbrella or tie an apron, focusing on what Harris' campaign "did wrong" is, at best, disingenuous.

There's no reality in which the Dem's so-called mistakes should ever outweigh the mess that is Trump, the current Republican Party, MAGA, and Project 2025.

I do not ask what she was wearing. Her being raped is not her fault.

=> Biden saved union pension funds.
=> Biden helped negotiate a favorable labor contract for railroad workers.
=> All the labor people here were *very* pro Harris.

TOTALLY out of touch elites; you bet.

=> Unemployment has remained low.
=> Presided over the return of manufacturing to the US.
=> Lowered prescription drug prices.
=> More Americans have healthcare than ever before.
=> Billions were given to student debt relief.
=> The American Rescue Plan got Americans back to work, covered Cobra payments, and even directly gave Americans money.
=> Biden actually, publicly supported labor.

Yeah, Biden/Harris were so out of touch they wasted their time doing things like:

=> Unions are the strongest they've been in decades.
=> Wages among the lowest earners grew the fastest.
=> The child tax credit was expanded.
=> A minimum corporate tax was enacted.
=> A tax on stock buybacks was added.
=> Passed the CHIPS Act.
=> High inflation was brought down to normal levels without a recession.
=> Millions of jobs were created.

Shirley Chisholm was made a footnote so that white fragility did not have to face its embrace of white supremacy.

And, "about the Vietnam War"? Kent State had already happened. Anti-war sentiment was at fever pitch. Yet, Nixon wanted to escalate. And THAT earned him the largest landslide in American history? That many people wanted more Vietnam? It never made sense to me UNTIL I uncovered the footnote of Chisholm's story. THEN it all made sense.

I was not old enough to have understood at the time.

Go back far enough, and none of us were for anything. But we still have education. We can still read.

I accept that you can remember '72, and that you remember it differently. That's fine. I'm only offering a different perspective that resonates with a bigger picture, for your consideration and that of your readers.

Again, McGovern's ineptitude is a convenient diversion. It was about racism and sexism.

Nixon had a Southern Strategy for the express purpose of attracting racist White people tired of seeing THEIR Democrat party advance Civil Rights.

McGovern was road kill, trampled under the stampede of racists feet wooed by Nixon's pandering rhetoric.

Rooting out racism and patriarchy is made more difficult by hiding them behind convenient diversions.

Trim branches? Time to get to the root.
