Andrew Cuomo finally giving his concession speech (reciting a 9/11 screed at an empty college baseball park concession stand on Staten Island)

Dick Cheney was the final GOP horcrux

Republicans had 66 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates in 2017. They’ll be below 40 when the 2026 batch is sworn in.

Golumbia’s superpower was bringing academic-level scrutiny to the various cliches that the tech sector loves, like “‘free’ as in ‘free speech’” and “the medium is the message.” Like, for as often as the latter is repeated, it’s not clear what it means even in its original context.mediarep.org/server/api/core/b

B-plot for today: the guy who told Dick Cheney to go fuck himself in Mississippi became an antivaxxer during Covid. theguardian.com/media/2021/nov

“Trump endorses Cuomo for NYC mayor” would probably give someone from 2020 a stroke if you went back in time and told them.

Standard Time owns. You eat like four meals and read two books and somehow it’s still only 9:30pm. Daylight Saving Time is a scam for “morning people”.

Every few years, I have to sign into AWS to do some minor thing, and there are 40 new levels of complexity to basic tasks, scary new terms and settings on everything that I don't want to touch, it turns out the one thing I needed doesn't exist anymore, and now I need to first create a user management system to set up assignment roles to tag my management assets so I can define an access policy for the one goddamn setting I was looking for

I’ll give Stoller credit on one thing: He’s seen right through all the uncompelling defenses of Section 230, something Golumbia has criticized at length and which Zitron naturally thinks is great

@cryptadamist Here’s a thread on a statistical interpretation mistake Jain recently made: bsky.app/profile/jakemgrumbach

Some crumbs from the trail re: his Mamdani poll, though some of the key posts have been deleted after the backlash: bsky.app/profile/aubreygillera

That Stancil video is great haha.

I feel somewhat sad about Zitron because I think he was on an important beat (AI skepticism) but he’s also somewhat compromised by his business. If he’s making people push back, I guess that’s still a net win

Just seems like a guy who’s exploiting the credulity people have toward “data” specialists to spread propaganda (see also David Shor). Yeah Stoller and Dayen are knowledgeable but Stoller in particular strikes me as a contrarian who likely supported Trump (he deleted a 2020 tweet where he said Trump was better at being president than Obama). But, I still read Dayen’s American Prospect and find it valuable. (2/2)

@cryptadamist There’s unevenness for sure. I’d put Zitron and Stancil at the bottom because they’re just conmen. With Jain, he got called out recently for massaging some numbers to make it seem like centrism is more electorally advantageous than it really is. He also was pushing a “Mamdani is super unpopular nationwide” take which is both irrelevant and a weird way to characterize “most people have no opinion on him because they don’t live in NYC.” (1/2)

This is actually a profound statement in general because it acknowledges that there are things you can’t learn or experience online

It’s hard to explain, but it’s amazing that being anti-porn is a left-wing position now, at least in the US
