Second comic con with Gas Giant Gambit in the books!
Overall, Oshawa was good to me. Made a few sales, maybe a purchase or two, and met some new people.
Looking forward to the Peterborough con next weekend!

I was *supposed* to be at the Oshawa ComiCon yesterday, but it was rescheduled, so you can find me there TODAY, instead!

Ho ho ho! Merry Christmas Eve to all!
Our Winter 2026 Issue is finalized, formatted, and ready for publishing on January 1st!
But, in the spirit of the season, here's a sneak peak at this quarter's cover!
2025 is just about over, and it was one a hell of a ride for my writing career!

In fresh accolade news, Gas Giant Gambit has made the Chanticleer Reviews Laramie Awards for Western, First Nations and Americana Fiction short list!
For my debut space western to receive this honor is a great vindication for all the work I did trying to make outer space feel like the old west!

Have I mentioned yet that Gas Giant Gambit was named one of Kirkus Reviews 100 Best Indie Books of 2025?
Yes?
Well, I'm not done talking about it yet! Here's what it means for me and GGG.
@jojoinabox thank you!
My publisher, Alex Parker Publishing, did a little write up about Gas Giant Gambit being selected as one of Kirkus Reviews' best indie books of 2025!
It includes a link to the magazine, so you can browse all the books that made the cut!
A big thanks to everyone at Alex Parker for taking a chance on this weird little mashup and helping me bring it across the finish line!
After keeping this news under my hat for more than 10 weeks, I am overjoyed to announce that Gas Giant Gambit has been named one of the best 100 indie books of 2025 by Kirkus Reviews--one of only 6 sci-fi books to make the cut, and the only sci-fi book on the list actually published this year!

I have held on to big Gas Giant Gambit news for nearly two months now as I awaited the official announcement.
Now I have less than 24 hours left to wait.
Big news tomorrow! The anticipation is driving me nuts!
I'm not especially well versed in Supergirl lore, but if I understand correctly, the upcoming movie is basically True Grit in space with superpowers.
As a massive fan of (and contributor to!) the space-western genre, I am here for it!
When asked what my writing style is, I struggle to describe it.
But I just edited the first chapter of Shallow Trenches/Open Skies's first draft, and I can *feel* the style even if I can't *describe* it.
I am please to say this reads like Gas Giant Gambit, although I can't put my finger on how or why.
Going out of my comfort zone with today's writing session.
At about 60% complete, I'm going back to the beginning of my 1st draft to edit. I generally prefer to finish before editing, otherwise I get lost in the editing and never finish.
But so much needs to change for the ending to make sense. And dropping these new characters in with less than halfway to go--without following their development--feels like a waste of time.
Wish me luck.
My research over the last two weeks has added so much detail and so many new characters, I don't feel like I can finish the story as is. I need to go back and weave these things into the narrative more fully so they make sense to me here at the end.
I'm already way behind on my goal of finishing this draft by the new year, so why not?
I think I'm going to do something during tomorrow's writing session I've never done before and have actively avoided.
At nearly 2/3 of the way through my first draft, I'm going to go back to the start and begin editing, even though I'm not done yet.
I want to make writing novels my full-time career. These are the stories I have planned that I hope will help me do it.

Over the last few weeks I've struggled with my writing. Characters, settings, and even action has felt flat.
I've spent a bunch of time doing research I should have done earlier, and now I feel ready to write again.
So now's obviously the perfect time for my carpal tunnel to act up ๐
It's a writing day for me, but the next few scenes will bring me right into a World War I battle (with invaders from outer space and five-legged walking tanks). And while I've done my documentary research to get the facts right, I think I need some emotional research as well.
Time for a movie day!
I'm thinking 1917 and Passchendaele, for starters.
These 7 books (or series) shaped my tastes as a reader, and my voice and direction as a writer.
