Social media post by Ryan Moulton:

Oil is the most Lovecraftian thing that
actually exists. You're telling me that
there's a black ichor under the earth,
made from the ancient dead, whose
burning can realize all the dreams of man
but only at the price of slowly returning
the earth to its primordial state?

This cannot be said enough. China's total population is over 1B people, India is over 1.2B people, and the US is a mere 350M people. The US has a larger prison population than both China and India combined.

@shauna Shauna I look forward to more from you on these topics. I hope you do them all! clearly people are interested, and I expect this is the type of thing even people who are somehow not would be proud to share far and wide.

@shauna @modulux well, I think the absolute importance shows itself in the violence to which men resort, as soon as they feel their control over this kind of resource slipping. In the incredible great length to which the system is willing to go, to keep it's base layer in place. In the utter despair of incels.... In the horrific psychological and health consequences of removing these resources from young children. It's a sad, crippeled and contorted representation though. In a life-affirming culture, we'd have love, respect, worship instead. everybody would value those qualities and strive to be a well of these core energies. There'd be a developed common awareness of what they are. We'd have a whole different language for everything.

@shauna @modulux I think in this thread is a black whole the shape of unpayed carework ,being the non-abstractable base layer of the world we know. Feminist science is trying to find abstractions for this work, but power is trying to bury those facts. And whenever I read new stuff on the topic, I wonder. What does this language omit. How can you quantify the steady stream of devotion life, energy that runs from women to children and men. It's so much more than working hours, tasks performed. It fulfills unabstractable but basic core needs. It's so deeply entrenched in our existence, we cant fathom a world without it. Patriarchy is addicted to it. Abstracting has be a preferre dway of lying and burying truth in this context. And yet feminists are using it to point to those same truths.

I got my $8 ethical and affordable brush and am going to make $1000 using that before I upgrade to a better synthetic brush

I nearly bought a beautiful wooden case of French oil paints. fast drying! but no. $100 is better spent not having them yet. I'm on gouache for now, although the colour change and chalk factor are annoying me a bit, and now I know fast drying oil paint exists my mouth is watering. thick, buttery jesus, I look forward to having skill sufficient to justify that famous medium

my last painting was good and the deal I made with myself was that if it is good then I get to buy a big brush, some new paints, and some better masking tape that dont rip up the paper. so I did. and man.

you can buy a cutting edge synthetic brush of your exact size, type, and spec for $6. or you can buy an exotic or domestic animal hair torture brush for $300. or you can buy a brand name brush for $800. crazy.

Replaced the glass carousel in my microwave with a turn table and I’ve added a tonearm so I can hear Ode to Joy on vinyl while reheating leftover Kraft macaroni and cheese and ketchup.
