The 30th edition of the COP for climate didn’t bring anything better than the last few editions. Small progress was made in some areas. Not the big change we wanted.

statement part 3

Fridays for Future COP 30 statement part 3NDCs 3.0:
Countries must revise their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and include concrete measures and policies that are in line with the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees and transitioning away from fossil fuels. We cannot accept empty commitments that, on the one hand, promise to leave fossil fuels behind and, on the other, continue their expansion or neglect a just transition. Furthermore, it is essential that the results of the first Global Stocktake be implemented. Furthermore, the science and knowledge of indigenous peoples must be a central part of the process.Financial objective:
We call for the NCQG to be increased to $1.3 trillion per year by 2035 intended for MAPA countries, also to address Loss And Damage. We call for direct access to fundings so that they actually reach local communities and indigenous Peoples. It is essential that funding does not lead to debt and is predominantly public, that bureaucratic barriers are minimised and that participatory decision-making is strengthened.Debt cancellation:
Without debt cancellation, MAPA (most affected people and areas) countries will be forced to allocate climate and Loss and Damage funds to projects that enable them to repay their debts to the global North. Furthermore, MAPA countries are already handing over the management of their natural areas to foreign countries in exchange for partial debt cancellation, undermining their territorial autonomy. We call for the immediate cancellation of the Global South's debts and an end to austerity policies, so that climate finance can be used for an ecological transition that is autonomous and led by communities, workers and indigenous Peoples.

statement part 2

Fridays for Future COP 30 statement part 2Adaptation:
Despite the irreversible damage caused by the climate crisis and the resulting political instability, the funds allocated for adaptation are 12 times lower than the estimated requirements of 310-365 billion dollars per year. Only 40% of total climate finance is allocated to adaptation. To reverse this trend, it is essential to prioritise inclusive governance and locally-led climate resilience solutions, systematically integrating gender, equity and justice into decision-making
processes. Adaptation cannot ignore a community-centred approach, especially in contexts where the consequences of climate crisis amplify pre-existing
vulnerabilities. The Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) must be transformed into an operational framework with quantifiable and measurable objectives and means of implementation. NDCs and NAPs must be implemented through
grants, concessional and non-debt-creating instruments to avoid enhancing inequities.
Loss and damage:
Funding for Loss and damage must cover material and immaterial damages that communities face due to the climate crisis, with at least $400 billion per year needed. To date, only $402 million has been paid into the fund, less than 0.2% of the requirement. An independant Secretariat from the World Bank is needed, with transparent and inclusive management and direct feedback channels with communities. National NDC policies and plans must integrate Loss & damage commitments. Rapid responses to climate shocks, micro-projects and small-scale grants need to be supported, empowering local governments and communities. This is a legal and justice obligation according to the princples of equity and common but differentiatied responsibility. We need to move beyond voluntary contributions, making commitments binding and holding the biggest polluters accountable.Taxing the weathiest:
We support the introduction of a minimum tax of 2% on the assets of centimillionaires (Zucman), with the proceeds going towards financing the fight against climate change and the protection of forests. We also believe that countries with 29nd greater resources should contribute proportionally to the protection of the global environment.

Cover decision:
We call on the countries participating in COP30 to commit to a final Cover decision for a total Fossil fuels Phase- out. The ‘transition away’ formula of
COP28 and the mere “coal phase-out” of COP26 are no longer acceptable.
We also call for the foundations to be laid for a new Agreement that goes beyond the Paris Agreement and responds to the challenges of the new global climate and political context, so that the danger of permanently exceeding the 1.5 °C temperature increase limit may be averted.
Palestine:
We stand alongside the Palestinian COP30 Coalition and support the demands for a global energy embargo and an end to fossil fuel supplies to Israel, through which countries are becoming complicit in genocide. We call for an end to water apartheid and agribusiness complicity. Israel cannot participate in COP30 like any other country; its actions must be condemned in every forum.
COP 30 statement part 1 Just Transition:
The Just Transition must leave no one behind. It is our chance for decent jobs, energy and food sovereignty, stronger communities and a liveable planet for all. It is not just about clean energy or green industry; we need to rethink every sector — agriculture, transport, tourism, industry — without forgetting those who work in the informal economy, micro-enterprises and those involved in care. To achieve this, we need a global mechanism that promotes inclusive, equitable and people-centred pathways, applying the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. We need to change the rules of the economic game: models that reduce poverty, environmental taxes that target polluters (and then redistribute resources) and breaking neocolonial agreements. )
We must ensure new, additional, adequate, non-debt-creating, and predictable climate finance for this mechanism. And above all, listening to workers and
communities. Without real participation, there can be no transition. To achieve this, the just transition must be taken into account in the NDCs.

Da quando il movimento è nato 7 anni (o 6 COP!) fa, molte cose sono cambiate ed ancora nebulose.
Eppure una è la certezza: la crisi climatica è peggiorata in modo tragico.
