I was diagnosed as an adult (26). I started on Pemoline/Cylert, it was effective but discontinued in 2005. I tried methylphenadate/Ritalin but it had nearly no effect on me. I currently take Adderall, but the US gov't likes to make that unavailable at random. When I can't get Adderall I've found {ser}dexmethylphenidate/Azstarys is a less-effective alternative. Vyvanse is not covered by my insurance.

I also take Bupropion (antidepressant) and Duloxetine (originally for pain, antidepressant) so it would seem I have some kind of imbalance with norepinephrine or dopamine.

My oldest kid (and her mother) also have adhd. I didn't get to be involved with her early childhood. She was prescribed Strattera, but she hated taking it but her mother tried to force her. She would pretend to take the pills then drop them in an air vent. Don't do that, at 12 your kid should be mature enough to be a participant in their health care.
