Toni #Negri passed away today. One of the greatest contemporary political philosophers. I was particularly influenced by his post-structuralist writings with Hardt, "Multitude" and "Empire". Although it's nearly 2 decades since I dived in these works, I believe they remained pivotaI in my views and modus operandi towards movements, community building, and platform engineering.

@whatzaname @yala @marqle @ajroach42 I believe that, in your valid attempt to block Meta, you misunderstand the point. It is perfectly OK to have a personal decision of not communicating to certain people based on their choices and beliefs. I do not think that is effective, though. No one cares for what you do in our small bubble. No one will even know if you are cutting a potential communication channel. However, you may be able to raise awareness and make a change if you dare to communicate.

@whatzaname @yala @marqle @ajroach42 Facebook/Meta is not my conversation partner. People that use such platforms may be. I find arrogant and elitarian not to communicate with someone just because that person chose the wrong tool or has a different opinion than mine.

It's time to address the elephant in the room, or actually Threads

As many of you may know Threads went live in Europe and with that they started testing federation with the Fediverse

At this point there is a choice to make

1. Block Threads on instance level, that will take away the choice for each person

2. Do not block and let people block if they want to(1 search and 2 clicks)

After much consideration and talks I think we need to go with option 2 and let people decide for themselves

Earlier today Antonio Negri passed away at the age of 90. Negri was one of the most influential radical political theorists of the post-War generation, and he arguably shaped the political world view of at least two generations of activists and theorists on the anti-authoritarian Left.

Negri was born in 1933 in Padua and joined a progressive Roman Catholic youth movement as a teenager. In 1956 he joined the Italian Socialist Party. He became professor of State Theory at a young age and was one of the main figures in the 'Operaismo' movement that emerged in Italy in the 1960s. One key feature of 'Operaismo' is the insight that the proletariat is in fact on the active and initiating side of class struggle. Capital, on the other hand, is largely responsive and must continuously seek to gain control over the political and productive potential of the working class.

Operaismo and Negri's theoretical work eventually gave rise to another heterodox Marxist movement: Autonomia. This movement promoted workers' self-organisation outside of the centralised party structure and the electoral-representative institutions of the capitalist state.
