Dog was an absolute champ through this. Such progress! For a living Scooby Doo incarnate.

(Well, apart from trying to crawl under my legs, then spotting a door and scrabbling at it)

She calmed down enough to sit and wait it out w me, having her ears scratched and leaning into it.

Then I saw the faint tremblings in her legs.

POOR BRAVE DOG πŸ₯Ή

Deeply unhappy, but staying calm.

She will never be OK with thunderstorms, but was trying so hard..

Well, potatoes got watered. *I* got watered.

Ninja thunderstorm: not on the weather radar, no sound until right above us.

Hid in the sports center. Rain stopped. Left sports center.

Storm: SURPRISE!! (Louder scarier thunder)

Was closer to home by that point, so just ran..

The Door into May.

(from our Mayday walk earlier this week)

A view looking uphill between tall leaning trees just bursting into leaf. A path of grass opens into a sunlit field, small white flowers dotting the ground under the trees which frame the view.. Distant trees are in full sun, and greener with already opened leaves.

Yesterday's panic mode: get these badly sprouted potatoes planted..

It was supposed to rain all today, so I went nuts hacking away 2 years of neglected garden to clear some ground, and dig it up.

The potatoes are in, no rain. But they're in.

A rectangle of freshly dug earth surrounded by overgrown chaos of plants. The soil is dry and full of roots, and has been piled up into 4 long mounds and furrows.Better view of the mounds, ready for potatoes. The shadows of a small rowan tree fall across the dug earth. Some loose sticks are piled up at the edge of the plot, remnants of previous runner beans, and a vain effort to hold back encroaching raspberries.

Bonus Cappuccino β˜•βœ¨

Small Siamese cat in a sunbeam. Her blue eyes are half closed, dark face turned slightly right. White spots pepper her chin and right cheek (seal tortoiseshell point). Her ears are lit up, glowing pink with fine dark hairs visible.

@Lojie The one we already have is open at the bottom, and sitting on the ground.

The worms found it eventually and moved in.

Dead bean and tomato plants also go in there, the rootballs probably transfer worms.

Too much kitchen waste gets slimy and anaerobic - we layer grass clippings / old straw / dead plants etc to keep some air flowing.

I have neglected the veg garden badly for the last 2 years though! 😿

@Lojie also, Bonus Chicken.

(My mother, walking past with a chicken as I was trying to take pics)

A small white chicken with red wattle and yellow beak, held by a pair of hands wearing yellow fleece top.

@Lojie Behold! The composter.

They gave me a little kitchen bin, and a guide book as well.

A green flat pack garden composter, bound in blue tape, lying on a lawn. A smaller kitchen scrap bin sits on top.

Magical hike. The whole landscape was glowing.

Sunshine and showers lit up the tiny sprouting leaves, both soft and harshly contrasted at the same time.

I get why the start of May was considered the start of the new year. The whole world exploding with life and colour.

Landscape of freshly sprouting trees and bushes, unusually contrasted by the palest yellow green of their shoots and the dark shadows of branches. The meadow beneath is violently green. Darker pine forest tops the hills in the distance. The sky is a hazy light blue with blurred white shower clouds. The effect is quite striking and magical, as jf the whole landscape is glowing.

spotted on yesterday's walk.

I only noticed the second one just now. It's very faint, on the top left behind the twigs.

A large wolfdog with grey and brown masked fur lies on fresh green summer grass in front of an old fence. Her mouth is open in a big smile, tongue hanging out the side of her long face. Her triangle ears pointing straight up, brown eyes half closed. A field with fresh green shoots of grass rises uphill behind her.

The first day of the year that really feels like summer is coming.

The air is warm. No cold shade, or harsh wind blowing.

White flowers, and yellow green leaves exploding around me.

Light drops of rain, here and gone.

Thunderclouds forming hazy in the distance.

Landscape of vividly green freshly sprouted leaves, glowing as the evening sun shines through them. On the larger oak tree to the right, the buds are just opening and the leaves appear as green dust on the bare dark branches. A pale blue sky with hazy clouds stretches above.

Miss Cappuccino is far less shy and loves a good snuggle.

The slightest noise will make her jump away though.

We also have a fantastic small woodburning stove (bought on ebay from Bulgaria for the princely sum of 300 euros). It rapidly heats the kitchen and has a small oven and cooking top.

The winters (used to be) very cold, so we planned for not having power.

@Starry1086 The power outages: we didn't get any, but I'm right next to 3 big hydroelectric dams.

Short powercuts are common anyway in the summer - the small villages have old overhead cables, vulnerable to lightning strikes or trees falling on them. My Internet also goes out on the regular. We're used to it!

Main reason I have a cell phone is to still have Internet in a storm.

Fibre arrived last year (govt scheme to wire up remote areas), and I have a small Solar charger just in case
